Emergency Stop. Emergency Stop. Machinery installations shall have an emergency stop function which stops the drive system. The emergency stop system may either implement a Category 0, or a Category 1 stop for the equipment. The choice of category shall be on the basis of a risk assessment and the functional needs of the machine. Category 0: Stopping by immediate removal of power to the drive elements of the machine (uncontrolled stop); Category 1: A controlled stop with power available to the drive elements of the machine to achieve the stop and then a guaranteed removal of power.
