Extended Leave of Absence on Compassionate Grounds. A permanent teacher on short-term leave may request an extended leave of absence without pay of not more than a year’s duration and ending within a school year. The School shall grant such leave of absence at its discretion and according to its terms. Where the leave may extend beyond the end of the School year, the leave is granted at the School’s discretion. The teacher will make every reasonable effort to minimize the disruption to his/her courses. During a leave of less than three months in duration, the School and the employee will continue to pay their respective portion of benefits premiums and contributions towards the Registered Retirement Savings Plan. During a leave of greater than three months, if the employee elects to continue benefits coverage, the employee will pay for both the employer and employee portion of benefits premiums. Continuation of benefits coverage shall be subject to the carrier’s approval. Accrual of sick leave credits and seniority will be discontinued during this period. For the purpose of this article, compassionate grounds means care of a chronically ill member of the immediate family.

Where the period requested exceeds the time allocated under the Employment Standards Act, the leave may be granted at the School’s discretion and according to its terms. Where the leave may extend beyond the end of the School year, the leave is granted at the School’s discretion.

  • Extended Leave of Absence Professional employees who have attained renewable contract status may request extended leaves of absence for one (1) year without pay under any one of the circumstances listed in this section. All requests for such extended leave of absence will be applied for and granted or rejected in writing. Such application will be reviewed by the principal and superintendent. If the latter approves, he/she will recommend that the leave be granted by the Board. An employee returning from an extended leave will be assigned to the same position as that which he/she held before assuming the leave, providing that position still exists. By mutual agreement between the employer and the employees, he/she may be given a different assignment. Extended leaves of absence may be requested under, but not limited to, the following:

  • Bereavement/Compassionate Leave 21.1 Employees (excluding casual employees) shall be entitled to a maximum of two days without loss of pay on each occasion and on production of satisfactory evidence of the death or near death in Australia of the employee’s partner, father, mother, brother, sister, child, stepchild or parents-in-law.

  • Educational Leave of Absence Leaves of absence may be granted up to six (6) months under the above provisions only if the course would be beneficial to both the University and the employee.

  • Unpaid Personal Leave of Absence 1. Any employee may apply for an unpaid personal leave of absence for good and sufficient reason. Leave pursuant to this provision may be for a period not exceeding twelve (12) months in any fourteen (14) consecutive months. Such leave may be granted at the discretion of the appointing authority and shall not be unreasonably denied. Employees are encouraged to consult with their agency/department Personnel Officer to determine if they are eligible for benefits available under the Federal Family and Medical Leave Act. All requests for such leave and responses shall be in writing. The application for leave must specifically state the reasons for such application and the length of time requested. After completion of a period of personal leave of absence, the employee shall be entitled to return to the organizational unit, status and position held immediately prior to the beginning of the leave of absence. If the employee's position is abolished during any such leave, he/she shall be notified and allowed to exercise his/her rights under the Seniority Article of this Agreement.

  • Taking compassionate leave (a) An employee may take compassionate leave for a particular permissible occasion if the leave is taken:

  • Extended Absences In the event Tenant will be away from the Premises for more than 7 consecutive days, Tenant agrees to notify Landlord in writing of such absence. During such absence, Landlord may enter the premises at times reasonable necessary to maintain the property and inspect for damages and needed repairs.

  • Long Term Leave of Absence The District may grant any employee an unpaid long-term leave of absence for up to one (1) year for study, child rearing, travel, medical, or other mutually agreed to reason(s). Upon Board approval leave may be extended an additional year. Employees granted such a leave shall be permitted to stay on the District insurance programs at their own expense (carriers permitting), shall not gain or lose seniority or other benefits, but shall not be granted advancement credit on the salary schedule for the period of the leave. Upon return from such leave, the employee shall be entitled to the same position or a position substantially equivalent to the position held prior to the leave.

  • Compassionate Care Leave (a) Compassionate care leave will be granted to an employee for up to eight (8) weeks within a twenty-six (26) week period to provide care or support to a family member who is at risk of dying within that 26-week period in accordance with section 49.1 of the Employment Standards Act, 2000.

  • Medical Leave of Absence Where you have a medical leave of absence due to any medically determinable physical or mental impairment that can be expected to result in death or can be expected to last for a continuous period of not less than six months, and you have not returned to employment with the Company or an Affiliate, a Separation from Service has occurred on the earlier of: (A) the first day on which you would not be considered “disabled” under any disability policy of the Company or Affiliate under which you are then receiving a benefit; or (B) the first day on which your medical leave of absence period exceeds 29 months.
