POSITIONS OF RESPONSIBILITY. L11.1 New appointments to continuing Positions of Responsibility which are vacant during the school year will be made as soon as possible after the vacancy occurs and each appointee, whether in an acting capacity or regular position, will be paid a responsibility allowance from the date of appointment. L11.2 A Position of Responsibility shall not be deemed to be vacant by reason of its incumbent being on leave but any appointment of a Teacher to such a Position of Responsibility may only be made in an "acting" capacity. L11.3 A Position of Responsibility shall not be deemed to be vacant for the reason of its incumbent being on leave for a period of less than a semester, or equivalent in a non- semestered school. L11.4 No Teacher other than a Teacher in a Position of Responsibility shall be required to perform the duties assigned to a Position of Responsibility. L11.5 Whenever feasible, a Teacher who holds a Position of Responsibility and who is granted a leave of absence or a position sharing assignment shall, upon return, be placed in the same Position of Responsibility in the same school. L11.6 Notwithstanding L11.5 the Teacher may be placed in another position if the Board and the Teacher so agree. L11.7 Positions of Responsibility vacancies shall be posted electronically. L11.8 If a vacancy occurs in a Position of Responsibility after September 1 or the first day of instruction in a year round school or for schools and worksites with an alternate calendar, this position shall be filled, if practical, on an interim basis for the remainder of the school year. The Bargaining Unit shall be informed of such interim appointments. L11.9 Any Teacher currently employed by the Board, including the Teacher appointed in L11.8 may apply for that position, effective September 1 of the following school year. L11.10 The Board and Bargaining Unit shall review the procedure developed to implement L11.8 and L11. L11.11 A Teacher may be appointed to an "acting" status in a Position of Responsibility only under any of the following circumstances: a) if the incumbent is returning to the position; b) if the appointment occurs after the first day of instruction; c) if the Teacher so appointed does not hold the qualifications for the position as required by the Ministry of Education or the Board; or d) if changes in the organization of the administrative structure concerned are under active investigation for implementation within two years of the appointment taking effect. (b) A teacher who holds a similar position at another school may apply for a transfer. The Board reserves the right to transfer a teacher who holds a similar position in another school in order to fill the vacancy.

POSITIONS OF RESPONSIBILITY. (SUBJECT COORDINATORS) 18:02 A teacher appointed to the position of Subject Coordinator shall hold Specialist or Honour Specialist qualifications in at least one of the subjects designated within the organizational unit to which the teacher is appointed. 18:03 Within the organizational unit, the Subject Coordinator shall perform the following duties: a) Provide leadership in the development, implementation, and review of curriculum and ensure that the organizational unit operates in accordance with the policies determined by the University of Toronto Schools. b) Assist teachers in order to ensure that the students achieve optimal learning outcomes. c) Provide coaching, mentoring and guidance to teachers. d) Assist teachers in the development of best practices in the assessment and evaluation of students and in reporting this information to students and to parents. e) Monitor the delivery of program and the achievement of students. f) Assist teachers in developing positive professional relations and communications with students, parents, other teachers, the administration and other educational partners. g) Make provision for those resources required for the delivery of programs, including managing the supplies and printing budget for the Subject Area. h) Ensure that the goals and objectives of the organizational unit are compatible with and supportive of the school mandate. i) Collaborate with teachers within the organizational unit and with other Subject Coordinators. j) Meet with teachers in the organizational unit on a regular basis, normally at least once a month. k) Meet with other Subject Coordinators on a regular basis, normally at least once a month. l) The Subject Coordinators and Athletic Director shall submit annually an organizational unit progress report. 18:04 Subject Coordinators shall perform other curriculum-related leadership duties as directed by the Principal. 18:05 Subject Coordinators shall assist the Principal in setting directions for any school plan for continuous improvement and improving the well being of students. 18:06 Duties of a Subject Coordinator shall not be delegated to other teachers, except in emergency situations. 18:07 Subject Coordinators shall not be responsible for the evaluation of teachers. 18:08 No teacher shall hold more than one position of responsibility at any one time, and no position shall be shared, except in emergency situations and on a short-term basis. 18:09 All Subject Coordinators shall be assigned o...
POSITIONS OF RESPONSIBILITY. (a) In addition to the position of Assistant Principal, where appointed, there will be four possible levels of positions of responsibility in a school. These are: (i) Preliminary Level of Responsibility (ii) Level 1Position of Responsibility (iii) Level 2 – Position of Responsibility (iv) Level 3 - Position of Responsibility as set out further in Schedule F – Positions of Responsibility. (b) The assignment of a position to a particular level in this clause will reflect the gradation of responsibilities exercised in each school, whether, administrative, pastoral care, co-curricular, or educational leadership, or a combination of these areas, taking into account the descriptions in Schedule F, with Level 3 being the most significant level of responsibility. (c) A teacher appointed to coordinate an area of instruction shall be appointed to the following positions of responsibility: Hours of instruction per week Minimum Level of Responsibility less than 50 hours Level 1 50 hours but not exceeding 150 hours Level 2 150 hours or more Level 3 (d) A school may appoint a part-time teacher to a fractional position of responsibility with the fraction being the same as the teacher’s load. If the teacher does not perform all of the duties associated with the full-time position teacher will receive an allowance calculated by multiplying the usual allowance for the position by the fraction (or teacher’s load). POSITIONS OF RESPONSIBILITY. (a) A position of responsibility may be shared by two teachers at the request of the teachers, with the recommendation of the principal and the approval of the Superintendent of Employee Services (b) In order to ensure the delivery of a coordinated program, where there are either no candidates or no suitable candidates available to fill a position of responsibility, then two positions of responsibility may be held by one teacher on the recommendation of the principal and the approval of the Superintendent of Employee Services. One of the positions will be held as an interim appointment. (c) In schools where the following programs are offered, there will be Positions of Responsibility: Arts Canadian and World Social Science Business Technology English French, Classical and International Languages Physical Education Mathematics Information Technology Science Guidance and Career Education Special Education Library Student Activities Co-operative Education and Other Forms of Experiential Learning Project Leader (d) Notwithstanding 9.03 (c), in schools where the ADE is less than 750, Canadian and World Studies and Social Science shall form one department. Additionally, Guidance and Career Education and Co- operative Education and Other Forms of Experiential Learning shall be combined to form one Student Services position.
POSITIONS OF RESPONSIBILITY. An organizational unit for a secondary school of the Board shall be a Department. Departments for the assignment of positions of responsibility will be as follows: The Arts, Business Studies, Canadian and World Studies, Co-operative Education, English, Guidance and Career Education, Health and Physical Education, Library, Mathematics, Modern Languages, Science, Social Science, Special Education, Technological Studies (including Design and Technology). All periods/sections shall be assigned to a department in a school. Notwithstanding the above, where a Department does not have sufficient sections to qualify for a Subject Chairperson, that Department will be combined with another Department. The principal, in consultation with the affected Departments, will submit a proposal, including rationale, for the particular combination desired to the parties. Approval of the combination will be at the discretion of the Director or designate after serious discussion at the In-School Staffing Advisory Committee and the Secondary School Staffing Advisory Committee.
POSITIONS OF RESPONSIBILITY. SUBJECT AREA HEADS POSITIONS 15.1.1 The Leadership Model outlined herein was implemented effective September 1, 2007, with adjustments to be implemented effective September 1, 2016. a) To hold a Position of Responsibility as a Subject Area Head (Major and Minor), a Member must hold a Specialist Certificate in a minimum of one (1) subject area within the assigned Organizational Unit of Responsibility. b) Per Article 15.1.2 (a), the Board shall not appoint a Member to a Position of Responsibility who does not possess a Specialist Certificate within the assigned Organizational Unit of Responsibility. c) The Board may appoint a Member, who does not, at the time of appointment, possess a Specialist Certificate within the assigned Organizational Unit of Responsibility, to an acting Position of Responsibility for, a term of no more than one (1) year's duration. d) If a Member who is appointed to an acting Position of Responsibility, as described in paragraph 2(b) above, receives a Specialist Certificate prior to May 15 in the year of their one-year anniversary date, their position shall be converted into a Position of Responsibility as set out in Article 15.1.2. e) A Member who holds an acting Position of Responsibility may not hold such a position for two consecutive terms unless extended by mutual consent of a Superintendent of the Board and the Bargaining Unit President. a) The Leadership Model is based on a cluster of subject areas organized under the leadership of one Subject Area Head. b) The number of Subject Area Heads and their status as Major or Minor Head will be determined by the course sections allocated within a school for the following school year. 15.1.4 The following will be used to determine the number of Positions of Responsibility allocated to each secondary school within the Algoma District School Board: a) For secondary schools with 230 course sections or greater, there will be twelve (12) Subject Area Head positions b) For secondary schools with 205 – 229 course sections, there will be eleven (11) Subject Area Head positions c) For secondary schools with 180 – 204 course sections, there will be ten (10) Subject Area Head positions; d) For secondary schools with 155 – 179 course sections there will be nine (9) Subject Area Head positions e) For secondary schools with 130 – 154 course sections there will be eight (8) Subject Area Head positions f) For secondary schools with 105 – 129 course sections there will be seven (7) Subject Area Head p...
