Long Term Leave of Absence. The District may grant any employee an unpaid long-term leave of absence for up to one (1) year for study, child rearing, travel, medical, or other mutually agreed to reason(s). Upon Board approval leave may be extended an additional year. Employees granted such a leave shall be permitted to stay on the District insurance programs at their own expense (carriers permitting), shall not gain or lose seniority or other benefits, but shall not be granted advancement credit on the salary schedule for the period of the leave. Upon return from such leave, the employee shall be entitled to the same position or a position substantially equivalent to the position held prior to the leave.
Long Term Leave of Absence. A long-term leave of absence may be requested for academic or professional study reasons, and may extend from four (4) to eighteen (18) months. While approval for such leave shall not be unreasonably withheld, staff members should not expect to necessarily return to the same position at the end of this leave. Where possible, a contract replacement may be appointed for the period of the regular staff member's leave.
Long Term Leave of Absence. Upon at least thirty (30) calendar days advance-written request to the local Labor Relations office from UPTE and the employee, no more than 1 per department, UPTE-represented non-probationary career employees per campus/hospital and laboratory shall be granted a leave of absence to engage in Union business pursuant to A.1. above. The duration of the leave of absence shall be specified at the time the employee commences the leave. No such leave shall be granted unless the written request specifies the duration of the leave.
Long Term Leave of Absence. Employees covered by this Agreement will be granted a long-term leave of absence upon recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools and at the discretion of the Board of Education. Such leaves will be granted only under the following conditions:
Long Term Leave of Absence. Minnesota law provides that the District may grant an extended leave of absence without salary or benefits to any full or part-time elementary or secondary teacher who has been employed by the district for at least five years and has at least ten years of full time teaching service in Minnesota public elementary or secondary schools. Pursuant to Minnesota Statutes, the duration of this leave shall be at least three years, but no more than five years. If the School Board denies a teacher’s request, it must provide reasonable justification for the denial. The Board retains the right to grant any teacher leave of absence upon terms that are different than the terms that are discussed above.
Long Term Leave of Absence. The School District may grant a one (1) year leave of absence to a teacher after completion of his/her fifth year of teaching in the School District for professional reasons upon the recommendation of the Superintendent for advanced study, exchange teaching, travel abroad, or other purposes which the School District feels will be of direct benefit to students of the School District. Final decision in granting such leave of absence will rest solely with the School District.
Long Term Leave of Absence. A long-term leave of absence may be requested by a Teacher provided that the request is in writing to the Director. Terms and conditions pertaining to the requested leave of absence shall be by mutual agreement in writing, between the Teacher and the Board. One of the conditions required for the approval is the Teacher agrees to notify the Board in writing of his/her intentions to return for the forthcoming school year (if leave is to continue beyond the end of the current year) as follows:

Employees who request five (5) or more full days off without pay and fringe benefits must submit said request to the Union and the Hermantown School District for their agreement for a period of time satisfactory to both parties. Leaves of absence will not be granted for longer than one (1) year. An Employee, granted a leave of absence for a given school year, is required to submit a letter of intent to return to work for the subsequent school year by April 1. If the employee fails to submit the letter of intent, he or she will be removed from the seniority list and no longer considered an employee of the District.
