Heads of Department. All Heads are expected to have an excellent working knowledge of their trade and very good organisational and supervisory skills. The heads are expected to be able to schedule on a timely basis, the crew working in their department. Organisational skills will provide the Head with the ability to keep track of material requirements well in advance of needing them. Communication between departments is also an expectation of this position. The reading of working drawings as they relate to ground plan and section is a responsibility given to the Heads and Assistant Heads. Heads are to take their direction from and are responsible to the Project Manager. Along with the Project Manager is responsible for ensuring that the crew is working safely in accordance with the Company policies and health and safety guidelines. Attendance and punctuality is to be a required asset.

Heads of Department. As Head of Department, you are responsible for: a) ensuring that the SRDS is implemented for all staff in your department on an annual basis. Responsibility for managing the process within the department may be delegated to a Deputy Head or other senior colleague as appropriate. b) ensuring that reviewers and reviewees are appropriately paired. In the majority of cases the reviewer will be the immediate manager of the reviewee. Reasonable requests for a different reviewer should be considered but the appropriateness of the pairing must take into account the intended outcomes of the SRDS process. Reviewers should normally have responsibility for a maximum of six reviewees. c) ensuring that all staff are briefed on departmental and relevant University objectives and priorities so that discussions between reviewers and reviewees are set in that context. d) ensuring that all staff acting as reviewers undertake appropriate briefing/training prior to undertaking any SRDS meetings. e) ensuring that a Departmental Review Panel is set up to consider the outcomes of SRDS meetings. It is expected that the DRP will be chaired by the Head of Department and will normally consist of senior staff reflecting the composition of the department, e.g. the departmental management/executive team. f) ensuring that DRP recommendations are communicated in line with University requirements (see Sections 5 and 6). g) ensuring that issues and concerns raised by reviewees during SRDS meetings are considered and addressed as appropriate, either directly or via the reviewer. h) ensuring that the process is kept under review at departmental level in order to meet University requirements and to be both efficient and effective in order to provide maximum benefit to the department and to individual staff.

The xxxx shall promptly confirm or modify the department faculty’s recommendations and communicate the guidelines and procedures in choosing the new department head. 3.1.2.2 The department faculty will formulate its recommendation(s) among all candidates and forward same to the xxxx, with supporting rationale. When the department faculty is able to find more than one (1) acceptable candidate, the department may rank order its list of acceptable candidates and give reasons for its ranking. If the department is able to find only one (1) acceptable candidate, it shall recommend that candidate. If the department faculty does not find an acceptable candidate, the search will be ended. The xxxx will review the departmental recommendation(s) with the PVPAA. If the department’s recommendation(s) is approved by the PVPAA, the PVPAA shall recommend the appointment of the candidate to the President of the University. If the University does not accept the recommended candidate(s), the University has the right to declare the search process has ended. 3.1.2.3 In the event a department head position is not filled in a timely fashion through the preceding procedures, the Board may appoint a department head for a period not to exceed one (1) year. During this year the procedures specified in sections 3.1.2.1 and 3.

  • Department Head A. Within ten (10) business days from his/her receipt of the decision resulting from the previous level, the employee may appeal to the Department Head using the original copy of the grievance. B. Within ten (10) business days from the receipt of the employee's grievance, the Department Head or his/her designated representative who has not been involved in the grievance in prior levels shall make a thorough review of the grievance, meet with the parties involved and give a written decision and the reasons therefore to the employee and the Union representative. However, the Department Head or designate is not limited to denying a grievance for the reasons stated at any previous level in the procedure.
