, Other Long and Short Term Leaves. An employee may apply for a leave of absence for any reason not covered under other Articles of this Agreement. An application for a leave of absence under this Section shall be made in writing to the Employer, setting forth the reason for the requested leave. No such leave shall be granted unless expressly authorized by the Employer in writing. In considering such leave requests, the Employer will give consideration to the reason for the request, the effect on the system, the availability of a substitute and other factors as may be deemed relevant by the Employer. The granting or denying of such leave requests rests in the discretion of the Employer. All leaves will be limited to two years. If an employee on authorized medical leave exceeds the two-year limitation, the employee shall continue to be eligible for hospitalization, medical and major medical insurance benefits in accordance with Article XIV, Section 2, even though the employee will have been deemed to have terminated employment. Leaves of absence required by law will be granted according to the provisions of the law. If an employee is granted a leave under this Section, the employee shall not be eligible for any of the fringe benefits provided for in this Agreement, nor for pay during said leave except as may be agreed upon in writing by the School Board at the time the leave is granted. Employees granted leaves under this Section shall be permitted to purchase at their own expense hospital/medical insurance fringe benefits to the extent permitted by the carriers involved. An exception to this for employees on medical leave who are also on Income Protection Insurance is described in Article XIV, Section 2. In the event that a leave is granted under this Section, the employee shall retain such amount of sick leave days and other accrued benefits, including seniority, as had accrued prior to the leave for use upon the employee's return. No accrual of leave or accrual for any other purpose shall take place during the time that the employee is on such leave, unless the Employer has expressly provided for such in writing at the time of granting the leave. Employees on leave shall notify the Employer of their intention to return as may be required by the Employer. Failure of an employee to return from any leave of absence granted under this Section at the specified date for return will result in termination of employment and loss of seniority and all accrued benefits.

  • Short Term Leaves Short Term Leaves are designed to allow Teachers who have to apply for short term personal leaves of absence not otherwise covered by this Collective Agreement.

  • Short Term Leave ‌ Members who are LTD trustees and Union stewards or designates may apply in writing to the Employer for short term leaves of absence for; attendance at union conventions, union courses, and union committees. The employee will give reasonable notice, which will be at least seven (7) days. The Employer will make every reasonable effort to accommodate such leave, and shall grant it subject to the ability to maintain the operational needs of the department. With the exception of members of the Union's executive, the Employer is not required to grant more than twenty (20) days LOA per calendar year under this provision.

  • Short Term Layoff In the event of short term layoffs (a layoff of less than thirteen (13) weeks) the Employer will determine the shift(s) and classification(s) in which the layoffs will occur. The parties can agree to alternative methods of reduction of hours if time permits.

  • Short Term Sick Leave 8. Each school year, an employee absent beyond the eleven (11) sick leave days paid at 100% of salary, as noted in section 2 above, shall be entitled up to an additional one hundred and twenty (120) days short term sick leave to be paid at a rate of 90 per cent of the employee’s regular salary if the employee is absent due to personal illness including medical appointments as per the collective agreement provisions and practices in effect as at August 31, 2012.

  • Short-Term Military Leave A unit member shall be granted leave with pay for the purpose of undergoing ordered pre-induction physical examinations for the armed services, and for the purpose of engaging in ordered, temporary training not to exceed thirty (30) workdays per calendar year.

  • Short-Term Unpaid Leave Up to two days of unpaid leave may be granted for extenuating circumstances that are deemed to be unavoidable by the administration. Teachers should submit a letter outlining the circumstances as soon as possible in advance of the date(s) requested. Teachers should plan for special events, trips, etc. by accumulating and utilizing personal business leave as stated in Article 19.2.

  • Long Term Leaves Long-term leaves are expected to be one year or less in duration to the extent feasible. At the end of the leave the employee will be returned to his/her former position or a position of similar nature. It is the responsibility of the employee to apply for long-term leave by letter to the Executive Director, Human Resources, and if the leave is granted, to advise the Executive Director, Human Resources of his/her return date at the earliest possible time; in no case shall the return date notice be provided later than April 1 for a return at the beginning of the next contract year. In addition to items 1-6 below employees will also enjoy those Family and Medical Leave rights required by state and federal law. Health insurance and other insurance benefits provided through the District may remain in force throughout the leave period, at the employee's discretion, by the employee submitting to the District the monthly premium in advance of each payment due date, provided that such continuation of benefits is allowed by the insurance carrier.

  • Long Term Leave Any employee who declines a reappointment as a Teaching Assistant in order to interrupt his/her program of graduate study for a period not to exceed one (1) year will not jeopardize his/her consideration for reappointment under Article l3.03.
