Pairing Construction. 1. All scheduled flying shall be built into one, two, three, four, and five day trips.
2. Trip pairings that include a Continuous Duty Overnight (CDO) will be constructed with no more than 14 hours duty. These pairings will be built with a minimum of a five (5) hour layover, measured from block in to block out, and with a maximum of three (3) segments preceding the layover and two (2) segments following the layover.
3. Pairings shall be built to begin and end at the same base unless mutually agreed upon.
4. Pairings may contain flight deadheading as well as surface deadheading in addition to working flights.
5. The Company shall attempt to minimize sit times in excess of four (4) hours.
6. Each duty period in a pairing must be separated by a minimum of ten (10) hours of scheduled rest.
7. The time scheduled between legs (turn time) will be a reasonable period of time to accomplish deplaning, boarding, security searches and in no case may be scheduled for less than established minimum ground times as stated in our manual system. The Company and Union when necessary will meet and discuss to review turn times and consider adjustments recommendations.
Pairing Construction. .01 A Pairing is a pre-arranged combination of one or more Duty Periods that shall be identified by a number for bidding and scheduling purposes.
.02 RAPs shall be constructed as Pairings which include start and release times, and shall be included in published Blocks.
.03 Pairings shall be constructed by the Company, in consultation with the Association, from the known aircraft route tracks and shall reflect all known scheduled flights and confirmed charter flying.
.04 All known Training Events shall be constructed as Pairings.
.05 Open consecutive single Duty Period Training Events that involve the same training candidate shall normally be constructed as a multi-day Pairing regardless of the Pilot’s Base. These combined Duty Periods shall normally be assigned in its entirety. Assignment of reserve Pilots to these pairings shall be in accordance with Section 7-1.12 (General) and shall be subject to operations requirements.
.06 Except for initial training, the number of consecutive Calendar Days in a Pairing shall not exceed four (4). The Association shall consider any request by the Company to exceed four (4) consecutive Calendar Days in a pairing.
.07 The Pairing mix within all Positions for the Air Canada CPA, shall meet the following criteria:
a) The total number of four (4) day Pairings shall not exceed the sum of one (1), two (2) and three (3) day Pairings.
b) The total number of three (3) day Pairings shall not exceed the sum of one (1) and two (2) day Pairings.
c) For the purposes of calculating a) and b) above, a continuous duty cycle shall be considered a one (1) day Pairing.
Pairing Construction. 14.12.1 The Company shall build Pairings with respect to a Flight Crew Member’s assigned flight duty that are no greater than twelve (12) calendar days. Assigned flight duty is not intended to include initial training or unforeseen ad hoc situations.
14.12.2 The crew planning department will include the following information at the time the monthly Pairings are published:
a) Bid open and closing date and time.
b) Recurrent and initial simulation and ground school training.
c) Pre-assignments.
d) Management flying.
Pairing Construction. 11.19.1 The Company shall build pairings (with exception of article 10.1.5 and 10.1.6) that are no greater than seven (7) calendar days.
11.19.2 The maximum number of days in a row that a FCM may be assigned duty shall be no greater than ten (10) after which at least two (2) days will be free from duty.
11.19.3 Pairings that are different in structure (i.e. day’s times destinations differ) will not have the same pairing number.
Pairing Construction a. It is the responsibility of the Company to prepare and publish the pairings to be bid on the by the Flight Attendants. Up to two designated members of the AFA Scheduling Committee shall be released and permitted to participate in the pairing construction/review process in Phoenix, Arizona prior to publication of the pairings for each bid period, and the Company will absorb the flight pay loss of one of the members. The publication of the pairings will not be delayed due to the unavailability of the AFA Scheduling Committee members.
b. All known flying shall be constructed into pairings.
c. Pairings shall not contain more than nine (9) scheduled block hours per duty period.
d. Notwithstanding the provisions above, pairings may contain greater than nine (9) scheduled block hours per duty period provided that the pairing contains only one (1) duty period and no greater than two (2) scheduled segments.
e. Pairings shall be built to begin and end at the same airport, unless co-terminals are mutually established.
f. The Company shall make every effort to minimize ground time.
g. The Company shall make every effort to minimize the number of scheduled aircraft changes within a duty period.
h. The Company will build a variety of types of pairings; e.g. CDOs Stand-Ups, one day, 2 day, 3 day, 4 day pairings, commutable pairings.

3. Notwithstanding the provisions above, pairings may contain greater than nine (9) scheduled block hours per duty period provided that the pairing contains only one (1) duty period and no greater than two (2) scheduled segments.

5. The Company shall make every effort to minimize ground time.
6. The Company shall make every effort to minimize the number of scheduled aircraft changes within a duty period.
7. The Company will build a variety of types of pairings; e.g. CDOs Stand- Ups, one day, 2 day, 3 day, 4 day pairings, commutable pairings.
8. The Union will meet with the Company on a monthly basis, and coordinate with other employee groups (i.e. pilots and scheduling) in constructing pairings. A Union representative may, at the Union’s option, participate in the pairing construction process. The Company will ensure that one Flight Attendant is relieved from her/his trip(s) or other duty assignment in order to be available for pairing construction, and will absorb the Flight Attendant’s flight pay loss.
9. A Flight Attendant who is originally scheduled for a break in service of four
Pairing Construction. A Pairing is a combination of one or more Duty Periods that will be identified by a number for bidding and scheduling purposes. Reserve Duty Periods shall be constructed as Pairings that include start and release times, and will be included in published Blocks. Pairings shall be constructed by the Company, in consultation with the from the known aircraft route tracks and shall reflect all known scheduled or charter flying. All known training periods will be constructed as Pairings. The number of continuous Days in a Pairing shall not normally exceed four (4). The maximum number of continuous Days in a Pairing shall be five The Company shall discuss with the Association the construction of any Pairings in excess of four (4) continuous Days before the Pairings are published for bidding purposes. For flight check-ins at layover points, the check-in times may be later than the duty commencing time to facilitate transportation requirements, but in no case will this be less than minutes prior to scheduled departure time.
Pairing Construction. PAIRING LENGTH 5-7.01. Scheduled Pairing length shall not exceed five (5) Days without the mutual agreement of the Association and the Company. The number of scheduled five (5) Day Pairings shall not exceed ten percent (10%) of the total number of Pairings system wide.
Pairing Construction. 1. The Company shall be responsible for construction of the Pairing set in accordance with this Article. All Segments of scheduled service prior to the monthly Bid opening shall be built into Pairings. Charter flying may be excluded from the initial Pairing construction due to special handling requirements. Inflight Leaders reserve the right to assign inaugural flying. Upon completion, the IFC Scheduling Committee (ISC) shall have no less than forty-eight (48) hours to review and make recommendations for changes to the Company’s Pairing set. Provided the Pairing set, as recommended by the ISC, does not increase the aggregate cost per fleet or negatively impact the operation, it will be published for bidding.
2. After the monthly Bid opens, new Segments of Known Flying shall be built into Pairings as soon as practicable.
3. All applicable RIGs will be applied in the construction of Pairings.
4. All Pairings shall originate and terminate from the same airport in the IFC's Base. A LIMO(s) may be used to facilitate this provision. Exception: Pairings created through Front End/Tail End Splits or Jetway Trades do not need to terminate at the same airport.
Pairing Construction. 12.17.1 The Company shall build Pairings (with exception of article 32.1.5 and 32.1.6) that are no greater than seven (7) Days.
12.17.2 Pairings that are different in structure (i.e. Day’s times destinations differ) will not have the same Pairing number.
12.17.3 The Crew Planning Department shall indicate on the list of Pairings, for each Base and position, the maximum and minimum flight time credits (FTC) which will be used when constructing flight Blocks. The Crew Planning department will include the following information at the time the monthly Pairings are published:
1) Bid window,
2) Training Pairings, 3) Line Checks,
