Payment for Unused Sick Leave on Termination of Employment. (a) For employees in the Bargaining Unit who have Seniority under the terms of the Agreement as of December 31, 1979, the following method of payment for sick leave credits will apply: In the event of the death of an employee, the value of all accrued sick leave shall be paid to the employee's designated beneficiary, or in the case of no designated beneficiary, to the employee's estate. An employee having accrued sick leave to his credit shall, on severance or retirement, receive an allowance in lieu thereof equal to such credit at the rate of pay effective immediately prior to severance or retirement. At the employee's request the payment of this allowance shall be:

Payment for Unused Sick Leave on Termination of Employment. (a) In the event of the death of an employee, of the value of all accrued sick leave credits shall be paid to the employee's beneficiary as designated in the Group Life Coverage. On severance or retirement after three (3) years service an employee having accrued sick leave credits shall receive an allowance in lieu of sick leave equal to fifty percent (50%) of the credit at the rate of pay effective immediately prior to severance or retirement. An employee who is terminated for cause shall be disqualified from payments of unused sick leave credits.

Payment for Unused Sick Leave on Termination of Employment. Employees employed in the bargaining unit on date of signing of this Agreement are entitled to payment for unused sick leave on termination of employment. The value of accrued sick leave shall be calculated based on the rate of pay for the classification held by the employee immediately prior to termination of employment. At the employee’s request (and if it is legally possible and does not cost the Town), the payment may be made to an RRSP in the employee’s name. If the employee has passed away, the payment can be made to the employee’s estate. For greater certainty, the employees entitled to this payout are identified in Appendix “B”, attached to this Agreement.
