Shift Selection and Assignment. Shift assignments shall be for terms of one year. For purposes of this Agreement, the term “shift assignment” shall mean both “team” and “time” of assignment. Bargaining Unit Member will submit their shift assignments preference for the following year in writing to the Chief of Police or his designee by September 1st of the year preceding the year in which such assignments are to be effective. Work shifts shall be selected by seniority on an annual basis. The Chief of Police or his designee shall, on or before November 15th, post the shift assignments for the upcoming calendar year. Bargaining Unit Member may exchange shifts with a Bargaining Unit Member from another team with approval of the Chief of Police or his designee. Such requests must be submitted in writing and signed by both affected Bargaining Unit Members as well as their immediate supervisor.

If a sergeant opts to leave night shift after 5 two (2) consecutive years (minimum 24 months), the sergeant will be allowed to 6 “bump” the least senior sergeant on the current schedule. Subsequently, their 7 shift selection will be determined by time in grade between themselves and the 8 current sergeant remaining on dayshift. 10 The same procedure shall apply to sergeants working dayshift who wish to move 11 to nightshift.
