Short-Term and Extended Sick Leaves. 1. Employees incapacitated by illness or injury are eligible to receive sick pay. 2. Upon hire, Employees are eligible to receive sick leave income for up to three calendar weeks per year for the following reasons: a. During incapacity due to illness or injury b. Preventative care c. In order to care for a family member whose condition meets the eligibility criteria included in this Article including care for a family member who loses time from regular work because of incapacity caused or contributed to by pregnancy, miscarriage, abortion, or childbirth. d. Sick leave income is also available for Employees who are not eligible for paid parental leave, and who are unable to work because they are bonding with their newly born, newly adopted, or newly fostered child. Those Employees ineligible for parental leave (less than six months service) may use sick leave income for bonding during the year following the child's birth or arrival in the home. e. Domestic violence or sexual assault 3. Employees with one year of service are eligible to receive extended sick leave pay due to incapacity or illness beyond the three weeks Short-Term sick pay. 4. Employees with one year of service are eligible for Extended Sick time pay up to a maximum of six (6) months at full pay plus six (6) months at half pay. 5. If an Employee becomes incapacitated on two or more occasions, the amount of sick leave income available to them for the second or subsequent incapacity is the amount of sick leave income for which the faculty member is eligible as described above minus any sick leave the Employee used during the five years before the date on which the Employee becomes incapacitated. 6. Extended Sick time pay starts with the first day of a qualifying illness or injury and is available when the following conditions are met: a. The Employee is absent due to a serious and/or chronic disabling illness or injury in excess of 10 consecutive working days. b. Acceptable supporting documentation from a physician has been received by Work Connections or the appointing unit. 7. Extended sick time leave may be taken as a single, continuous block of time or intermittently during the duration of the illness or injury. The Employee and the appointing unit will work together to determine an appropriate schedule that makes every effort to accommodate the needs of both the Employee and the operations of the appointing unit. 8.   • Short Term Paid Leaves The parties agree that the issue of Short Term Paid Leaves had been addressed at the Central Table and the provisions shall remain status quo to provisions in current local collective agreements. For clarity, any leave of absence in the 2008-12 Collective Agreement, that utilizes deduction from sick leave, for reasons other than personal illness shall be granted without loss of salary or deduction from sick leave, to a maximum of five (5) days per school year. Local collective agreements that have more than (5) days shall be limited to five (5) days. These days shall not be used for the purpose of sick leave nor shall they be accumulated from year-to-year. Such provisions shall not be subject to local bargaining or mid-term amendments between local parties. Notwithstanding this stipulation, local collective agreement terms will need to align with the terms above.

  • Short Term Leaves Short Term Leaves are designed to allow Teachers who have to apply for short term personal leaves of absence not otherwise covered by this Collective Agreement.

  • Short Term Leave Members who are LTD trustees and Union stewards or designates may apply in writing to the Employer for short term leaves of absence for; attendance at union conventions, union courses, and union committees. The employee will give reasonable notice, which will be at least seven (7) days. The Employer will make every reasonable effort to accommodate such leave, and shall grant it subject to the ability to maintain the operational needs of the department. With the exception of members of the Union's executive, the employer is not required to grant more than twenty (20) days LOA per calendar year under this provision.

  • Short Term Disability Insurance The Employer will provide access to a short term disability supplemental insurance plan to employees through payroll deduction. Such plan will be 100% paid for by the employee through payroll deduction using post- taxed dollars. Prior to the implementation, the Employer will review the plan with the Union. If an employee purchases the short-term disability insurance plan and incurs hours of leave that would qualify for both short-term disability and Extended Illness Bank paid leave, the employee may elect to use either short-term disability leave or Extended Illness Bank hours.

  • Short Term Disability Plan The administration of the Short Term Disability Plan and the payment of benefits under this Plan shall be handled by the Company.

  • Short Term Disability The Employer agrees to provide Short Term Disability benefits to all active full-time employees from the first (1st) day of an accident or the first (1st) full-time day of hospitalized or the fourth (4th) day of sickness. The Plan will pay sixty-six and two thirds percent (66 2/3%) of basic earnings for the first two (2) weeks, then Unemployment Insurance will pay fifteen (15) weeks, then the Plan will resume payments for thirty-five (35 weeks).

  • Short-Term Leave and Disability Plan Top up i. Teachers accessing STLDP will have access to any unused Sick Leave Days from their last year worked for the purpose of topping up salary to one hundred percent (100%) under the STLDP. ii. This top-up is calculated as follows: Eleven (11) days less the number of sick leave days used in the most recent year worked. iii. Each top-up from ninety percent (90%) to one hundred percent (100%) requires the corresponding fraction of a day available for top- up. iv. In addition to the top-up bank, top-up for compassionate reasons may be considered at the discretion of the board on a case by case basis. The top-up will not exceed two (2) days and is dependent on having two (2) unused Short Term Paid Leave Days in the current year. These days can be used to top-up salary under the STLDP. v. When Teachers use any part of an STLDP day they may access their top up bank to top up their salary to one hundred percent (100%).

  • SHORT TERM EXTENSION In the event a replacement Contract has not been issued, this Contract may be extended unilaterally by the State for an additional period of up to one (1) month upon notice to the Contractor with the same terms and conditions as the original Contract including, but not limited to, quantities (prorated for such one month extension), prices, and delivery requirements. With the concurrence of the Contractor, the extension may be for a period of up to three (3) months in lieu of one (1) month. However, this extension terminates should a replacement Contract be issued in the interim.

  • Short Term Disability Benefits The Board shall provide short-term disability benefits as set forth in the short term disability summary plan description. 1. Rate of Benefits and Waiting Period Short term disability benefits for disabilities resulting from non-occupational illness or injury, shall be paid at the rate of 70% of the employee’s regular rate subject to all applicable deductions. Following the exhaustion of temporary leave, there is a five (5) day waiting period before short term disability benefits begin. The five (5) day waiting period will be waived for absences greater than thirty (30) consecutive calendar days and short term disability payments shall be paid retroactively.
