STUDENT MEDICATION AND MEDICAL PROCEDURES. 1. Teachers have a duty to render assistance in an emergency. 2. If isolation or other exceptional circumstances prevent the foregoing from being applicable and a teacher is requested to administer medication or other medical procedures, the teacher shall receive appropriate training.

Student medication and medical procedures in District schools shall be as follows: a. teachers have a duty to render assistance in an emergency; b. teachers shall not be called on to administer medication nor administer other medical procedures on a regular or predictable basis; c. the Board shall establish policies that require schools to establish systems for administering medication and other medical procedures after consultation with parents, family physicians, the public health nurse and the medical health officer.

The Board shall ensure that schools establish systems for administering medication and other medical procedures after consultation with parents, family physicians, the public health nurse and the medical health officer. 3. If exceptional circumstances prevent the foregoing from being applicable and teachers are requested to administer medication or other medical procedures, the following conditions constitute prerequisites: a. Teachers volunteer to provide the service; b. Teachers receive training appropriate to the required duties.
STUDENT MEDICATION AND MEDICAL PROCEDURES. (a) The Board, after consultation with parents, family physicians, the public health nurse and the medical health officer, shall ensure that schools have systems for administering medication and other medical procedures. (b) Such systems will include provision for the following: (i) Employees, including substitutes, will receive child specific training by appropriate health care professionals. No such employees shall be required to perform medical procedures until after having received such training. (ii) A record of training shall be maintained by the employer. The Union shall receive a copy of the record of training once a year. (iii) On-going evaluation of training shall be conducted by the appropriate health care professional. (iv) All procedures shall be in accordance with Inter-Ministerial protocols and up-dated as required. (c) Effective date of ratification, where medical procedures such as tube feeding, injections or other equivalent medical procedures become part of the required duties of a position then the individual in that position shall have the option of remaining in that position or receiving layoff notice.

D.27.2 The Board shall ensure that schools establish systems for administering medication and other medical procedures for students with health conditions after consultation with parents, the family physicians, the public health nurse and other appropriate health officials as required in Board Policy. D.27.3 If geographic isolation or other exceptional circumstances prevent the systems outlined in D.27.2 from being applicable and teachers are requested to administer medication or other medical procedures, all of the following conditions shall govern: a. Teachers volunteer to provide service. b. Written authorization and instructions for administration of medication or medical procedures must be received from the attending physician, confirming that the medication or medical procedure is required. c. The child’s parent or guardian has made a written request for the school’s assistance and has discussed the situation with school personnel. d. Sufficient instructions and training for the teacher have been provided from a qualified health care professional. D.27.4 Nothing in this article limits or removes the obligation of the teacher to render assistance to the best of his/her ability in an unforeseen health emergency involving a student.

Teachers of regular classes which include students with special needs shall not be required to perform these duties. D.27.2 The Board shall ensure that schools establish systems for administering medication and other medical procedures for students with health conditions after consultation with parents, the family physicians, the public health nurse and other appropriate health officials as required in Board Policy. D.27.3 If geographic isolation or other exceptional circumstances prevent the systems outlined in D.27.2 from being applicable and teachers are requested to administer medication or other medical procedures, all of the following conditions shall govern: a.
