TEACHERS’ WORK YEAR AND TEACHING LOAD. 1. The work year of teachers (other than new personnel who may be required to attend orientation sessions for which they will be compensated at the rate of one one-hundred and eighty-fifth [1/185] of the minimum salary for the Bachelor’s scale per day of attendance) will begin no earlier than the Monday preceding Labor Day and terminate no later than the last regular school day in June for pupils, providing closing commitments have been met, but may include five (5) professional days. Professional days may be scheduled in one of two ways: a. A minimum of one (1) professional day will be scheduled prior to the opening of school. The traditional model of two (2) full days for parent-teacher conferences when school is not in session for students is utilized and two (2) additional professional days when school is not in session for students may be scheduled. b. A minimum of one (1) professional day will be scheduled prior to the opening of school. An alternate model of up to three half days or parent-teacher conferences is used; the total additional hours required for these conferences would count as (1) professional day. Three (3) additional professional days when school is not in session for students may be scheduled. Additional workshops may be agreed upon by the Association and Committee (except Saturdays, Sundays, and other school vacations) during the school year prior to the last regular class of the school year. (a) It is recognized by the Committee and the Association that the pupil-teacher ratio is an important aspect of an effective program. Therefore, they agree that every effort shall be made to keep class sizes at an acceptable number as dictated by the grade level and subject matter taught, the financial condition of the school system, the building facilities available, and the best interests of the district as deemed administratively feasible. (b) It is recognized by the Committee and the Association that creating and maintaining an equitable schedule is advantageous. In this spirit, the Administration will strive to develop a schedule and class assignment as early as possible before the end of the school year, so that the Administration can reasonably consider faculty input in scheduling and course assignment

  • TEACHING HOURS AND TEACHING LOAD Section 1 Work Day For the applicable agreement period, the normal work day will be seven and one-quarter (7 ¼) hours including arrival time fifteen (15) minutes before and departure time (15) minutes after the students’ school day. The normal work day will include uninterrupted prep time. The Building Principal, as authorized by the Superintendent, upon request of a teacher or group of teachers, may waive the requirement to remain fifteen (15) minutes after the school day for a specific day or days. It is recognized; however, that the proper performance of their duties may, on occasion, require these persons to work longer than the normal work day, i.e. for conferences, faculty meetings, department meetings, etc. Therefore, “mandatory meetings will occur two times per month and be no longer than 90 minutes in length, inclusive of the additional 15 minutes beyond the scheduled student school day. A schedule of the meetings will be distributed by June 30th of the previous school year, but may be changed at the discretion of the Principal with 48 hours’ notice.” Teachers will also remain at school after the fifteen (15) minutes described above, during one (1) day each calendar week for such periods of time as is necessary to provide students extra help, and/or to meet with parents or guardians, concerning the progress of their children or wards. No teacher shall be required to work more than a normal seven and one- quarter (7 ¼) hour day, including fifteen (15) minutes before and (15) minutes after the students’ school day, which will include uninterrupted prep time; this provision does not apply to other contractually agreed upon time and meetings. Should state law require a longer instructional day, or more days, the teachers shall work the added time and the parties shall immediately commence impact bargaining on the issue. This article does not purport to cover the arrival and departure time of teachers involved in special assignments. Section 2 Other Personnel Personnel other than classroom teachers will work at their assigned tasks for the length of the regular teachers' work day. The exact daily schedule will be worked out on an individual basis between the Administration and the employee with notification to the Association. Instructional Coaches are required to work an additional five (5) days at their per diem rate, beyond the work year for a total of 189 days. These days will be determined prior to the start of the new school year and at the discretion of the Superintendent and the Chief Academic Officer.

  • Teaching Load 11-1 The parties recognize that the number of students, the number of preparations, and the amount of planning time are related to student performance. 11-2 CLASS SIZE 11-2-1 The parties recognize that class size is related to economics and that reduction of class size is faced with fiscal constraints. The parties further recognize that it is not feasible at this time to set general numerical limitations upon class size because of physical space available, special programs, special student needs, attendance area variances, differences in scheduling systems, busing, and because of other variable causes affecting class size. Nevertheless, the parties shall make reasonable effort to maintain class size at reasonable, workable, and educationally effective levels in all situations. 11-3 TEACHER LOAD 11-3-1 Teaching load shall be defined as the number of separate class preparations that a teacher has per school day as delineated in the course description guide.

  • Work Year The full-time work year for all employees employed in EA and ECE job classes shall be a minimum of 194 work days to correspond with the school year calendar.

  • HOURS OF WORK AND OVERTIME 16.1 This Article is intended to define the normal hours of work per day or per week in effect at the time of execution of this Agreement. Nothing contained herein shall be construed as preventing the Employer from restructuring the normal work day or work week for the purpose of promoting efficiency or improving services; from establishing the work schedules of employees; or establishing part-time positions. This Article is intended to be used as the basis for computing overtime. 16.2 The work week shall be computed between 12:01 a.m. on Sunday of each calendar week and at 12 o'clock midnight the following Saturday. 16.3 When an employee is required by the Employer to work for more than forty (40) hours in a calendar week, he shall be paid overtime pay for all time worked in excess of the forty (40) hours. Overtime pay shall be paid at the rate of one and one-half (1-1/2) times the employee's regular hourly rate of pay, which includes Annual Leave, Extended Leave or holidays taken in the forty (40) hour week only in their normal job classification. 16.4 Whenever an employee is called to work at a time other than his regular work schedule, thereby necessitating additional travel to and from work, he shall be guaranteed two (2) hours of pay at the straight time or overtime rate, whichever is appropriate, in accordance with the other articles of the Agreement. 16.5 Based on the needs of the Washington County Board of DD, full-time permanent employees may be given the opportunity to volunteer during the summer months to work a four (4) day, ten (10) hours per day work week, scheduled either as a Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday as approved by the department’s supervisor or Superintendent. When two or more employees work in the same department, the schedules will be staggered so that each day of the work week is covered. The Employee with the most seniority will be given priority as to days worked. Holiday pay will be given for the number of hours the Employee works without a modified summer schedule, not to exceed eight (8) hours. The Employee will be expected to use Annual Leave for the remaining hours or make up the hours throughout the remainder of the current week. 16.6 Employees who work on Sunday shall be paid at one and one-half (1-1/2) times the employee's regular hourly rate. 16.7 There shall be no pyramiding of overtime or premium pay under any provisions of this Agreement. 16.8 Full time status with the Washington County Board of Developmental Disabilities is 30 or more hours per week, exclusive of a one-half (1/2) hour lunch period.

  • HOURS OF WORK & OVERTIME Section 15.1 This Article is intended to define the normal hours of work per day or per week in effect at the time of execution of this Agreement. Nothing contained herein shall be construed as preventing the Employer from restructuring the normal workday or workweek as necessary to promote efficiency or improve services, or from establishing the work schedules of employees. However, nothing in this Section shall relieve the Employer of its duty to bargain the affects of such decisions on employee wages, hours, terms and other conditions of employment. This Article shall be used as the basis for computing overtime for employees who are not exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and shall not be construed as a guarantee of hours of work per day or per week. Section 15.2 Employees may take one paid fifteen (15) minute break for every four (4) hour block worked. Employees may combine breaks to take up to one (1) sixty (60) minute paid break. Employees may not leave campus on their paid breaks. Section 15.3 Bargaining unit employees who are not exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act will be paid one and one-half times their normal hourly rate for all hours actually worked in excess of forty (40) hours per work week. All overtime shall have prior supervisory approval, except when it is necessary for a nurse to remain on duty to protect patient safety. Only hours actually worked are counted for the purpose of computing an employee's eligibility for overtime pay. There shall be no pyramiding of hours or pay. Section 15.4 The Board serves individuals 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. To meet this need for service to our individuals evening and weekend hours may be required of any bargaining unit employee. The Employer will establish the standard work day as beginning at 6:00 a.m. and ending at 5:59 a.m. and starting and ending times for each shift in each department. Supervisors will establish daily workschedules. Section 15.5 Absent an emergency situation, management will notify the Union in the event management intends to institute a long-term change in the present shift times for nurses. Following notification and upon request by the Union, management will meet with the Union to discuss the reason for the change and possible alternatives.
