Urban Search and Rescue (USAR). Employees who complete the prescribed department-training shall receive USAR pay of 2.75% of base salary. For Firefighters who are assigned as paramedics per Section A 1 above, USAR pay shall be paid by using base pay plus paramedic assignment pay (14.52%) Therefore, a Firefighter earning $41.52 per hour will have USAR pay calculated as follows: Base pay rate $41.52 x paramedic assignment pay 14.52% = $6.03 for a total combined base + USAR pay of $47.55 multiplied by 2.75% = $1.31 per hour for a total of $48.86 for regularly scheduled (non-overtime) hours. The parties agree that to the extent permitted by law, the compensation for USAR Pay is special compensation and shall be reported as such pursuant to Title 2 CCR, Section 571(a)(2) Educational Incentive Pay.

Urban Search and Rescue (USAR). The District will strive to maintain 30 unit employees who are designated by the Fire Chief or designee as active members of the District’s USAR Team and, effective retroactive to the pay period inclusive of July 1, 2021, shall receive the hourly equivalent of $175 per month ($0.72 per hour); effective the first pay period following July 2022, shall receive the hourly equivalent of $200 per month ($0.82 per hour); and effective the first pay period following July 2023, shall receive the hourly equivalent of $225 per month ($0.93 per hour). Such compensation shall be paid regardless of total time spent in response. Attendance at four (4) of the bi-monthly training events provided by the District is required for continued qualification for this special assignment and the corresponding special pay. The Deputy Chief may authorize substitutions of up to two (2) of the four (4) trainings. Attendance will be monitored on a calendar year basis. The parties agree that to the extent permitted by law, the compensation in this section is special compensation and shall be reported as such pursuant to Title 2 CCR, Section 571(a)(4) Heavy/Special Equipment Operator.
