PBD will not be taken for concerted employee activity such as strikes, work stoppages, and work slowdowns during normal business hours. 6.1.3.1 The following guidelines apply for use of PBD, except in case of an emergency or with prior approval: • Minimum of seven (7) calendar days notice to immediate supervisor • Twelve (12) month employees cannot combine PBD with vacation • PBD will not be taken during the first week/last week of school, days before/after recess/holidays
Use of Sick Leave in Cases of Personal Necessity a) Any days of leave of absence for illness or injury allowed for sick leave may be used by the unit member, at his/her election, upon prior approval in cases of personal necessity. Personal necessity leave shall be limited to circumstances that are serious in nature and that the unit member cannot reasonably be expected to disregard, and that necessitates immediate attention and cannot be taken care of after work hours. Personal necessity may not be used on Staff Development Days. A maximum of eight (8) days of accumulated leave may be used in any school year for personal necessity leave. A unit member requesting personal necessity leave shall obtain prior approval and submit a completed personal necessity leave request form verifying the reason for the personal necessity leave in triplicate to the school principal within three (3) working days, when possible, prior to requesting the leave. One copy will be retained by the principal. One copy of the request form will be returned to the unit member. All requests for said leave shall be forwarded to the District Office. The approval or disapproval of the leave shall be determined on the basis of the aforementioned criteria by the Superintendent or designee. In the case of a life threatening illness of an immediate family member, requiring the unit member to be absent, the unit member may use up to an additional seven (7) days of sick leave as personal necessity leave.

A maximum of seven (7) days of accumulated leave may be used in any school year for personal necessity leave. 3. When possible, a bargaining unit member requesting personal necessity leave shall notify the school principal within three (3) working days, prior to using the leave. 4. Personal Necessity leave should not be used on the following days; however, the District reserves the right to allow Personal Necessity leave on those days: a. Day before or after a holiday or vacation period (including summer recess), b. Travel time prior to and after holiday and vacation periods (including summer recess), c. On staff development days. 5. Under no circumstances shall Personal Necessity leave be used to engage in a strike or work stoppage, political campaign or demonstration, or to seek or engage in other employment.
