Xxxx Leave (Full. Time) 1. Upon hire, the employee shall be credited with twelve (12) sick days. After the first year of employment, sick leave shall be earned at one (1) day per month. Sick leave is to be used for personal illness or disability, or because of a medical reason related to the employee or employee’s family defined as spouse, spouse- substitute, children, siblings, parents, grandparents, grandchildren, or those for whom the employee has legal guardianship. Sick leave may be taken in fifteen (15) minute increments. 2. Sick leave in cases of serious illness to family shall be limited to five (5) days. If extenuating circumstances arise, the employee may use additional sick leave providing the employee can substantiate the need with a doctor's statement.

  • Xxxx Leave For laid off employees, sick leave accruals shall remain on the books and be reinstated if such employees are reappointed. Whenever a person becomes ineligible for reemployment and such person has not been re-employed, then, if at the point of layoff such person was eligible to receive a sick leave accrual payoff, such person shall be paid for existing sick leave accruals in accordance with Section 1408 of this Agreement.

  • Employment During Unpaid Maternity Leave (a) Special Temporary Employment (i) For the purposes of this subclause, “temporary” means employment of an intermittent nature; for a limited, specified period; and undertaken during unpaid Maternity Leave or extended unpaid Maternity Leave.

  • ARTICLE LEAVE OF ABSENCE The Employer, may, in its discretion, grant a leave of absence with or without pay to any employee for education personal reasons. Request for leave of absence shall be in writing and submitted to his supervisor who will forward the same to the designated Human Resources representative for approval. An employeeshall not be required to use his accumulated vacation before requesting a leave of absence for non-vacation purposes. The Employer shall grant leaves of absence without pay to up to four (4) employees to attend Union conventions or seminars, provided that: such leave does not unduly interfere with the operation requirements of the Employer; the total leave of absence granted hereunder shall not exceed twenty-five working days per year of the agreement; not more than one (1) employee from any program unit may receive leave hereunder at any one time and; the Union gives fourteen (14) clear notice of such leave to the Employer. Leave of absence due to pregnancy and/or parental leave shall be granted in accordance with the requirements of the Standards Act of Ontario If an employee who has completed his probationary period is required to serve as a juror, he shall not lose his regular pay because of such attendance provided he notifies his supervisor immediately upon notification that he will be required to serve as a juror, presents proof of service and promptly pays to the Employer any amounts paid to him for such service. Employees absent from work for any continuous period of fifteen (15) calendar days or more other than a period of vacation leave or paid sick leave shall not earn vacation or sick leave credits during the period of any such absence and anniversary dates shall be adjusted accordingly except as specified in Article In addition, the Employer shall not be required to contribute to the payment of health and welfare benefits during any such absence. Employees who desire to maintain health and welfare benefits through the Employer must arrange payments of premiums for all such benefits and pay all such premiums through the Employer before commencing any absence. Notwithstanding the preceding paragraph, it is agreed that the Employer shall maintain health and welfare benefits for employees who are off work on Long Term Disability or Workplace Safety and Insurance Board Benefits for a period of up to one (1) year from the date such employee ceased working for the Employer provided the employee pays his portion of the health and welfare benefits premium. An employee shall be entitled to paternity leave which shall consist of one (1)day with pay and two (2) days without pay.

  • Maternity Leave Allowance ‌ (a) An employee who qualifies for maternity leave pursuant to Clause 21.1, shall be paid a maternity leave allowance in accordance with the Supplemental Employment Benefit (SEB) Plan. In order to receive this allowance, the employee must provide to the Employer, proof that she has applied for and is eligible to receive employment insurance benefits pursuant to the Employment Insurance Act. An employee disentitled or disqualified from receiving employment insurance benefits is not eligible for maternity leave allowance. (b) Pursuant to the Supplemental Employment Benefit (SEB) Plan, the maternity leave allowance will consist of 15 weekly payments equivalent to the difference between the employment insurance gross benefits and any other earnings received by the employee and 85% of the employee's basic pay.

  • Union Leave of Absence An employee on an unpaid Union leave of absence shall have her wages, benefits and seniority continued by the Employer, and the Union agrees to reimburse the Employer for the costs of such wages and benefits. Employees requesting leave under this article will provide the Employer with as much advance notice as possible of the dates of the leave. Where there are less than fifteen (15) regular employees at a workstation at the time the leave request is submitted, and subject to operational requirements, unpaid Union leave of absence will be granted to one employee for the purpose of conducting Union business. This would be an additional person on Union leave at worksites where the position of the Union President or Council member has been backfilled for the duration of their term of office. A leave of absence without pay shall be granted to an employee who is a member of the Union and who is: A) a Union Council/Board member. Such leave shall be granted for the purpose of attending regular or special meetings of the Council/Board and shall include reasonable travel time. B) either elected or appointed to represent the Union and/or a region at annual or special conventions of the Union. C) a member of the Union’s bargaining committee. Such leave (including travelling time) shall be granted to attend preparatory negotiating meetings, to conduct negotiations, and to participate in mediation, industrial inquiry commissioner hearings and arbitrations. D) selected by the Union or its members as a delegate to attend the Provincial Bargaining Conference. E) selected by the Union or its members as a delegate to attend regional Bargaining Conference.

  • Medical Leave of Absence Where you have a medical leave of absence due to any medically determinable physical or mental impairment that can be expected to result in death or can be expected to last for a continuous period of not less than six months, and you have not returned to employment with the Company or an Affiliate, a Separation from Service has occurred on the earlier of: (A) the first day on which you would not be considered “disabled” under any disability policy of the Company or Affiliate under which you are then receiving a benefit; or (B) the first day on which your medical leave of absence period exceeds 29 months.

  • Maternity Leave 16.01 Upon written request on the appropriate form by a pregnant Employee, the University shall grant maternity leave consistent in timing and duration with the Employment Standards Act of New Brunswick. The application is to be made no later than two (2) weeks prior to the date that she intends to begin her leave and should specify the duration of the leave. A medical certificate specifying the expected date of delivery is to be attached to the application. 16.02 A pregnant employee may wish to continue working up to the expected date of delivery and may do so, if in the opinion of her physician she is able to fulfill her normal job responsibilities. No pregnant employee will be allowed to work in an area that may be hazardous to her health or to that of her child. The employee may be transferred by the Employer if appropriate alternate employment is available. 16.03 An early return to work, following delivery, will require a medical certificate indicating that the employee is medically fit for work. 16.04 Following the period of maternity leave, the employee will normally return to her former position. If this is not possible, she will be placed in an equivalent level of position. 16.05 A period of maternity leave may be extended by applying for an unpaid leave of absence under Article 18, Parental leave under Article 16A or by taking vacation time, if approved by the Employer. Such a request will not be unreasonably refused. 16.06 Upon completion of the initial probationary period of continuous employment, a female employee who provides the Employer with proof that she has applied for and is eligible to receive Employment Insurance benefits, shall be paid a maternity leave allowance in accordance with a plan registered with the Canada Employment Insurance Commission as a Supplementary Unemployment Benefit Plan (S.U.B.). 16.07 Under the provisions of the S.U.B. plan, the Employee's salary will be maintained at 95% of her regular weekly earnings for a maximum of 17 weeks of maternity leave. This plan allows the Employer to make up the difference between the C.E.I.C. maternity leave benefits up to 95% of the Employee's regular weekly earnings. The Employee is required to apply for the C.E.I.C. maternity leave benefit and must be eligible for the benefit for this plan to apply (as specified in the appropriate sections of the Employment Insurance Regulations). Contributions to the pension and benefit plans shall continue on the part of the Employee and the University on the basis of 100% of salary. 16.08 Employees have no vested right to payments under the plan except to payments during a period of unemployment specified in the plan (57 (13(h) of the E.I. Regulations). 16.09 Payments in respect of guaranteed annual remuneration or in respect of deferred remuneration or severance pay benefits are not reduced or increased by payments received under the plan. 16.10 Employees must apply for and must be in receipt of employment insurance benefits to receive payments under the plan.

  • Vacation Leave Maximum Employees may accumulate maximum vacation leave balances not to exceed two hundred and forty (240) hours. However, there are two (2) exceptions that allow vacation leave to accumulate above the maximum: A. If an employee’s request for vacation leave is denied by the Employer, and the employee is close to the vacation leave maximum, the Employer will grant an extension for each month that the Employer must defer the employee’s request for vacation leave. B. An employee may also accumulate vacation leave days in excess of two hundred and forty (240) hours as long as the employee uses the excess balance prior to his or her anniversary date. Any leave in excess of the maximum that is not deferred in advance of its accrual as described above, will be lost on the employee’s anniversary date.

  • Sick Leave During Leave of Absence (F/T) When an Employee is given leave of absence without pay for any reason, or is laid off on account of lack of work, he/she shall not continue to accumulate sick leave and shall not be entitled to receive pay for sickness for the period of such absence, but shall retain his/her cumulative credit, if any, existing at the time of such leave or lay-off.
