Intensive Outpatient Services definition

Intensive Outpatient Services means programs that have the capacity for planned, structured, service provision of at least two hours per day and three days per week. The range of services offered could include group, individual, family or multi-family group psychotherapy, psychoeducational services, and medical monitoring. These services would include multiple or extended treatment/rehabilitation/counseling visits or professional supervision and support. Program models include structured “crisis intervention programs,” “psychiatric or psychosocial rehabilitation,” and some “day treatment.”

Intensive Outpatient Services or "IOP" means an organized, non- residential outpatient treatment service with scheduled sessions that provide a range of nine (9) to fifteen (15) treatment hours per week. Intensive outpatient services may offer evening outpatient services several nights per week or be incorporated into an inpatient or residential treatment program in which the individual participates in daytime treatment services but goes home at night. Intensive Outpatient shall correspond to ASAM Patient Placement Criteria Treatment Level: Level II.1, Intensive outpatient.

  • Outpatient services means those services rendered in a practitioner’s office or in the department of an approved facility where services are rendered to persons who have not had an overnight stay and are not charged for room and board.
