Special Assignments. The transport of students for Vocational Based 11 Instruction (VBI’s) or the Transitions Program, both programs administered by the
Special Assignments. Employees required to work on days in which schools are not in session to attend workshops, serve on committees, or for other educational purposes, shall be paid at the normal schedule rate for the hours worked. Employees, who are not required to work, but for whom the Principal or supervisor has requested and/or pre-approved attendance with pay for optional workshops or service on committees for other educational purposes, on days in which schools are not in session, shall be paid at the current Step 1, Base-rate of pay per hour worked. For certain pre-approved events, the employee has the option of receiving pay or in-service training credit, as described in Article 17, Section 3. The Board of Education at its discretion may establish a higher rate in special circumstances.
Special Assignments shall be defined as: (a) Any sports or news gathering assignment of national or international significance, excluding coverage of spot news, where such assignment takes place outside the province of Alberta and/or a distance of more than 350km has been travelled from the station, in which the employee is assigned to. (b) Any mobile production which takes place outside the province of Alberta and/or outside the viewing areas described in (a) above.

More Definitions of Special Assignments

Special Assignments are assigned or reassigned activities other than the bargaining unit member’s primary duties; and are voluntary. “Overload Assignment” see Article 16.
Special Assignments has the meaning set forth in Section 5.3(a).
Special Assignments. All overnight trips shall be chaperoned by a responsible adult chaperone. All sporting event trips transporting spectators shall be chaperoned. In the event that no staff is able to chaperone, the Board shall obtain other non-staff chaperones. The Board will pay a gratuity of $40.00 per overnight trip for chaperoning outside normal school hours. The Board agrees to pay each teacher using his/her own car to transport any student for any authorized school purpose, which is approved by the Superintendent in advance, at the rate allowed by the Internal Revenue Service.
Special Assignments shall be defined as:
Special Assignments. Any officer called in for special assignment during said officer's off-duty time, shall be paid a minimum of three (3) hours at the overtime rate, and such overtime rate shall continue for any hour or portion, thereof, (at least fifteen (15) minutes), beyond said three (3) hours. This shall include parade duty, as well as any other instance where extra police protection is required. Payment for special assignments shall not be compounded, pyramided, overlapped with or added to compensation for any other purpose. No three hour minimum will be due if an employee is called in or held over contiguous to his/her regular shift. Employees will not be paid more than a single three hour minimum for work performed during the same three hour period.(Amended: July 19, 2004)
Special Assignments. A special assignment, for purposes of this provision, is limited to the following assignments: Dare Officer, Range Instructor, Taser Instructor, FTC, Preliminary Breath Test Calibrator, MAGNET, K-9 Officer, 416 Unit, and Ithaca Unit. If a new special assignment position is established by the Sheriff, the parties will negotiate regarding whether that position will be included in this paragraph. An employee who is assigned to a special assignment must continue such assignment, unless removed by the Sheriff, for a period of not less than two years. Upon expiration of the two year period, that special assignment shall continue until such time that: A. The employee makes a written request to the Sheriff, a copy of which is provided to the Union’s bargaining agent, requesting to be removed from the assignment; B. The Sheriff shall first, and within 10 day of receiving such request, post an opening in the special assignment an seek qualified volunteers for such assignment. If an employee volunteers, and is deemed qualified (in the sole discretion of the Sheriff), the qualified volunteer shall undertake any required training or certification necessary to the special assignment; C. If no employee volunteers, the Sheriff may, in his discretion, assign an employee (other than the employee who made the request to be removed) to the special assignment. The assigned employee shall undertake and complete within one year any required training or certification necessary to the special assignment. An employee will not be discharged for a failure to pass the required training or certification unless the employee failed to make a good faith, demonstrable effort to pass; and. D. When, and only when, a replacement employee is assigned by the Sheriff, and fully qualified/trained/certified for the special assignment, the employee requesting to be removed from the assignment shall be relieved from the special assignment. It is understood that the Sheriff may, at his/her discretion, remove an employee from a special assignment at any time. If the Sheriff takes such action, he will state the reason for such action. The Union acknowledges that the decision of the Sheriff is final an not subject to the grievance or arbitration provisions.
