K-9 Officer. ‌ 32.1 The Employee who will be assigned as the University’s K-9 patrol officer will serve in this capacity for the service life of the canine, unless or until such assignment is terminated by the Chief of Police. Such termination shall require the Union be notified 30 calendar days in advance and shall be at the discretion of the Chief of Police. 32.2 In addition to the Employee’s regular schedule as the police K-9 officer, the Employee will be entitled to compensation for the time spent caring for, feeding and grooming the canine during off-duty hours. The compensation for such off duty hours will be 3.5 hours per week at the regular overtime rate, with the exception that the K-9 officer will not receive the per-week premium pay for any week when the canine is kenneled. Kenneling costs will be covered by the University, as necessary and appropriate. 32.3 The Employee shall be allowed to utilize a department owned police vehicle for the sole purpose of transporting the canine to and from work, training, kenneling, veterinary appointments, and as necessary under the guidelines provided by department policy. 32.4 The Employee is required to maintain all training certification requirements, as established by the Vermont Criminal Justice Training Council and as specifically applicable to K-9 units. Such training time shall be compensated as provided by Article 16 of the contract. 32.5 The Employer shall be responsible for all expenses related to the care and feeding of the K-9 to include food, grooming and medical care. The Employee agrees to clear any unusual and/or extraordinary expenses, in advance, with the Chief of Police. 32.6 In the event the K-9 develops a serious illness or injury, the Employer retains the right, through the Chief of Police, to determine, on a case-by-case basis, the University’s responsibility for continued care of the animal after consultation with a veterinarian. 32.7 The Employee recognizes the value and importance of maintaining employment with the University of Vermont Police Services for the service life of the canine. Should a break in service occur, the Employee agrees to give the Employer, at minimum, 120 days’ notice of intent to sever employment with the University. At the Chief’s sole discretion, the canine may be reassigned to another K-9 handler or transferred to the ownership of the Employee, in exchange for an appropriate sum of money, to be determined at that time. 32.8 The continuation of the University’s K-9 progr...
K-9 Officer. The K-9 officer will work four (4) consecutive days, consisting of (10) hour shifts, followed by three (3) consecutive days off duty. The K-9 officer will get sixty (60) minutes per shift for the care and maintenance of the K-9. The K-9 officer will have Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday off. The K-9 officer's schedule may be changed under the language described in Section I.
K-9 Officer. Any officer assigned a dog shall receive one and one half (I ½) hours per week at the straight time rate of pay for care, maintenance, and feeding of the dog.
K-9 Officer. 1. A K-9 Officer shall be paid for eight (8) hours per day but shall only be required to work seven and one-half (71/2) hours per day. 2. A K-9 Officer shall receive four (4) hours of compensatory time per month as compensation for weekend care of the dog.
K-9 Officer. Effective January 1, 2000, the City shall pay each K-9 Officer the sum of $150.00 per month. In addition, each K-9 Officer shall be granted one half (1/2) hour per day and one additional hour per month Compensatory Time for the time the officer spends with the care and maintenance of the animal.
K-9 Officer. Any officer assigned to the canine unit shall work a seven- (7) hour shift. The eighth hour shall be given off to the officer for care, grooming and feeding of the department canine. The eighth hour off will be at the end of the shift, therefore enabling the Officer-in- Charge to hold over the canine officer in the event of personnel shortage or any other emergency determined by the Officer-in-Charge. If said canine officer is held past the seven-hour shift, the officer shall be paid at their time and one-half (1.5) rate. In addition, the canine officer shall be paid one (1) hour per day at a straight time rate for his/her care and maintenance of the K-9 on his/her regularly scheduled days off. The Town shall pay for all food and reasonable medical care for the canine. Such medical care shall include, but not be limited to heart worm medication, yearly veterinary shots, rabies vaccine, etc. The Town shall pay for all necessary training and equipment. Such equipment shall include, but not be limited to leashes, collars, bite sleeves, watering bowls, muzzles, etc. The Chief of Police with consideration from the attending veterinarian shall consider any catastrophic injury or illness of the canine on a case-by-case basis and the canine officer involved. The department canine shall be kenneled at the Officer's home and the Town shall pay for said reasonably priced kennel. The Town will provide the expense in the event the canine officer is away on vacation and the canine requires to be kenneled at a boarding kennel. The Town shall assume all reasonable liability for the canine, in regards to its performance, as a police work dog.

K-9 Officer. 23.1 The City in its discretion shall determine whether to maintain a K-9 program. The K-9 Officer will remain on the current patrol schedule or such other schedule as the Chief of Police shall approve. The K-9 Officer retains the ability to bid for shifts by seniority. The K-9 Officer is an officer of the City and no additional compensation shall be provided for the assignment. 23.2 The K-9 Officer shall be allotted four (4) hours per week for the general maintenance and care of the dog and program equipment. The K-9 Officer will be released from regular duty for the first half hour and last half hour or his/her shift or such longer/shorter time depending on shift schedule in order to provide time for the maintenance and care of the dog. 23.3 The K-9 Officer is subject to callout for incidents reasonably related to this program; the K-9 Officer will be compensated in accordance with the current Collective Bargaining Agreement for callouts. 23.4 Required training to maintain certification of the program will be conducted during on-duty hours when adequate shift coverage exists in the absence of the K-9 Officer. Training will be at the discretion of the Chief of Police and approved by the Mayor. Specific training may be requested by the designated K-9 handler and is subject to approval by the Chief of Police and Mayor. 23.5 Veterinary care will be scheduled during the K-9 Officer’s regularly-scheduled shift. In the event of an emergency occurring during a shift, emergency and maintenance care beyond the allotted release time shall be at the overtime rate. 23.6 To provide for the care of the dog during the K-9 Officer’s vacations, the City shall pay or reimburse the K-9 Officer for the normal reasonable costs of kenneling at an appropriate kennel agreed upon by the K-9 Officer and the Chief of Police for up to ten (10) days per year. Any kenneling beyond the ten (10) days annually shall be at the cost of the K-9 Officer. Kenneling reimbursement will not be provided for any days the officer does not claim vacation time. 23.7 This Pilot Program and the K-9 Officer assigned may be terminated at the sole discretion of the City Council.
K-9 Officer. The Employee with the assignment of K-9 Officer shall work an eleven (11) hour shift with one hour of kennel time, being paid for twelve hours at their regular rate of pay and receive fifty cents ($0.50) per hour Specialty Pay for their twelve (12) hour shift.
K-9 Officer. A. The canine officer shall receive $1,000 per year for work related care of his/her canine partner. The payment is based upon the agreement of the parties, verified by the officer, that such off duty work related care requires an average of fifteen minutes per day. The parties agree that the straight time rate of pay applicable to such work shall be $10.20 per hour and the overtime rate shall be $15.30 per hour. It is agreed by the parties that eighty (80) hours of the off-duty care time shall be at straight time and twelve (12) hours at overtime based upon actual experience and pursuant to Section 7(g) of the Fair Labors Standards Act. B. In addition to the language provided above in paragraph A., the canine officer will receive additional compensation in-lieu of on-call pay in the amount of $1000 for off-duty time in which the canine officer is required to be on-call. The amount of on-call time is to be determined by the Chief of Police or his representative. The total compensation for the canine officer, including the $1,000 described above in paragraph A., shall be $2,000 added to the officer's base wage. This compensation shall be included in the determination of the canine officer's hourly rate of pay.
