Aimhigher. Further outreach work within the College is targeted towards our own level three students through the Aimhigher Scheme. These activities are wide ranging and include visits to Higher Education Institutions, revision master classes, visits from industrial speakers and team-building events.

Aimhigher. The sub-regional AimHigher programme involves a consortium of local HEIs in Hampshire and its work is complemented by Up for It A summary of the activities of the AimHigher partnership, which has been agreed by all its HEI members, is at Annex A.
Aimhigher. The University is an active participant in the West Yorkshire Aimhigher initiative, working closely with schools and colleges to promote greater progression to higher education. The main activities are linked to the Bradford University Academy, along with a major commitment to student mentoring and links with work based learning providers.
Aimhigher. 14. The University has played a leading role in the success of the Aimhigher activities in collaboration with other institutions in the West Midlands. We believe that this work has a significant impact on the aspirations of young people. The area Aimhigher office is currently hosted at University of Birmingham, and we are in discussions with our three HEI partners to retain it after the withdrawal of Government funding, in order to facilitate and evaluate the new collaborative work which we will develop to build on the success of Aimhigher in our area. In contributing to the current success of Xxxxxxxxx, we have participated in the following activities: • Primary School engagement project aimed at years 5 and 6; • Masterclasses for years 10 to 13; • Residential activity (see below); • A programme of information, advice and guidance to under 16s; and • The Aimhigher Associate Programme.
Aimhigher. 28. The University of Birmingham has formed a collaborative partnership with Aston University, Birmingham City University, and University College Birmingham to take forward the legacy of the Birmingham and Solihull Aimhigher (AH) partnership. Established in 2004, the partnership of five HEIs, two local authorities and 118 local schools, academies and FE/6th Form Colleges in Birmingham and Solihull has proved very successful in developing an extensive provision of widening access activities, including collaborative provision of mentoring, masterclasses, summer schools and IAG activities. The new partnership will seek to take forward this work, focusing upon pre-16 education within a new organisational model which draws upon the experience and successful initiatives of the AH partnership. The University of Birmingham will jointly fund this with a contribution of £25,000 in 2011-12 and £35,000 in 2012-13 and is intimately involved in its governance and management. Partnership activities will complement Birmingham’s own extensive programme of widening access and fair access measures outlined elsewhere in this agreement.
Aimhigher. The University of Birmingham will continue the collaborative Aimhigher West Midlands partnership established in 2011/12 with Aston, BCU and UCB, and now including Worcester. The partnership met its yearly milestones in 2014/15 and is on course to do so again in 2015/16. We therefore confirm our intention to engage 1,000 disadvantaged young people in Aimhigher’s intensive activity in each year from 2017/18 to 2020/21. We will also take steps to increase the proportion of white disadvantaged males within this cohort, whilst maintaining our strong engagement with learners from XXXX heritage backgrounds. The University of Birmingham will jointly fund Aimhigher with a contribution of £35,000 in 2017/18 and will be intimately involved in its governance and management. The outreach activities delivered through the partnership will complement Birmingham’s own extensive programme of widening access and fair access measures outlined elsewhere in this Agreement. The partnership is exploring ways to sustain the wider collaborative work it undertakes with a further 7 regional institutions as part of the NNCO initiative, HEFCE funding for which ceases at the end of December 2016.

Aimhigher. The sub-regional AimHigher programme involves a consortium of local HEIs in Hampshire. The University of Portsmouth contributes to the delivery of a number of the Aimhigher action programmes and currently leads on two: Off Campus Aspiration Raising activities and Raising Attainment and Aspirations in Maths. The work carried out under the AimHigher programme complements the Universities Up for It and widening participation initiatives.
Aimhigher. The college is a member of the Central London Partnership for Aimhigher, and targets funds to raise the aspirations of students on programmes at Levels 2 and 3 within the college itself and in its partner London boroughs. Aimhigher activities include visits to this and other HE institutions, revision and master classes, visits from industrial speakers and team-building events. Learners applying to HE receive a variety of forms of support with their applications from tutors and members of the college’s Student Services staff. Outreach activity with college-based learners on vocational Level 3 programmes will be enhanced through the use of the new Access Measures Fund, and HE learners in receipt of bursaries will be expected to support the targeting of progression advice towards these Level 3 learners.

As part of this collaborative programme we will seek opportunities to extend and enhance our work with young people facing multiple dimensions of disadvantage. This will include support for children in care via our relationship with the Birmingham Virtual School. We will align the management and delivery of this collaborative activity with that of our National Collaborative Outreach Programme consortia, monitoring the engagement of regional schools and colleges and the ages of the students we engage to ensure those outside the scope of the NCOP are not marginalised. We will also increase our efforts to engage schools and colleges in the region’s only Opportunity Area (Stoke-on-Trent). The University of Birmingham will jointly fund Aimhigher with a contribution of £35,000 in 2018/19; we will be intimately involved in its governance and management and will continue to host the management team. The outreach activities delivered through the partnership will complement Birmingham’s own extensive programme of widening access and fair access measures outlined elsewhere in this Agreement.
