Annual Leave, Statutory, and Commissioner’s Holiday Entitlements. Employees receive four weeks annual leave, eleven statutory holidays as falling due, and three Commissioner’s holidays each year for the first five years of employment. Upon completing five years, employees are entitled to start accruing five weeks annual leave, the eleven statutory holidays, but will not receive Commissioner’s holidays. For administrative purposes annual leave accrues fortnightly except if an employee is on leave without pay. Staff who receive 5 weeks annual leave may request a cash up of the 5th week of annual leave. Payment will be made using the higher of OWP, AWE or ordinary pay at the time the application to cash up is approved. Otago Anniversary day will be observes on the same day as Southland anniversary day. Employees should not work Statutory, or Commissioner holidays, unless approved by their supervisor and rostered to work on those days as required by operational circumstance. The minimum period of annual leave that may be taken is a half hour. The purpose of annual leave is to allow employees to receive appropriate opportunities for rest and recreation. The regular use of annual leave in smaller blocks of time should be discouraged.
