Approval of Use of Leave Without Pay. In general, Leave Without Pay for periods in excess of thirty (30) consecutive calendar days shall only be awarded to regular, full-time classified employees. Appropriate paid leave must be exhausted before Leave Without Pay can be used. For LWOP Sick, all accrued leave (sick, annual, birthday, holiday and TILO) must be exhausted before LWOP can be approved. For LWOP Annual, all accrued annual leave, birthday, holiday and TILO must be exhausted before LWOP can be approved. Sick leave may not be used in place of annual leave. Employee’s who are approved for extended leave must use any paid leave hours on their first shift(s) of the pay period in accordance with the order of precedence listed below:

Approval of Use of Leave Without Pay. In general, Leave Without Pay for periods in excess of thirty (30) consecutive calendar days shall only be awarded to regular, full-time appointive and classified employees. All LWOP must be approved by the employee’s department director, or designee, and non-medical Leave Without Pay for periods in excess of thirty (30) consecutive calendar days must also be approved by the City Manager, or designee. Leave Without Pay for medical reasons must be approved by the employee’s Department Director, or designee, and the Human Resources Department. An employee on Leave Without Pay for medical reasons will normally be at a residence for the purpose of recuperating, at a medical facility, or at a facility purchasing personal items and/or medications, and shall be responsible for notifying the department director, or designee, of his/her primary location, contact information and return to work status during the leave period. Leave will be used in the following order of precedence:

  • Effect of Leave Without Pay No benefits or time credit such as sick leave or vacation shall be earned during the period when an employee is absent on leave without pay.

  • Personal Leave Without Pay Leave of absence without pay may be granted by the College for legitimate personal reasons.

  • Special Leave Without Pay Section 1. Employees may participate in a Special Leave Without Pay Program as established by the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners. The Special Leave Without Pay Program period is from date of County Board Approval through December 31, 2021.

  • Court Appearance Leave Without Pay An employee may request and shall be granted leave without pay for the time required to make an appearance as a plaintiff or defendant in a civil or criminal court proceeding that is not connected with the employee's officially assigned duties. However, reduction in salary will not be made for an FLSA-exempt employee to testify in court or at a deposition except for full workweek increments where such testimony causes an absence of one (1) or more full workweeks.

  • Other Leave Without Pay At its discretion, the Employer may grant leave without pay for purposes other than those specified in this Agreement, including enrolment in the Canadian Armed Forces and election to a full-time municipal office.

  • Leave Without Pay for the Care and Nurturing of Pre-School Age Children Subject to operational requirements, an employee shall be granted leave without pay for the personal care and nurturing of the employee's pre-school age children in accordance with the following conditions:

  • Education Leave Without Pay I. The Employer recognizes the usefulness of education leave. Upon written application by the employee and with the approval of the Employer, an employee may be granted education leave without pay for varying periods of up to one (1) year, which can be renewed by mutual agreement, to attend a recognized institution for studies in some field of education in which preparation is needed to fill the employee’s present role more adequately or to undertake studies in some field in order to provide a service which the Employer requires or is planning to provide.

  • Leave Without Pay for Personal Needs Leave without pay will be granted for personal needs, in the following manner:

  • Parental Leave Without Pay (a) Where an employee has or will have the actual care and custody of a new-born child (including the new-born child of a common-law partner), the employee shall, upon request, be granted parental leave without pay for a single period of up to thirty-seven (37) consecutive weeks in the fifty-two (52) week period beginning on the day on which the child is born or the day on which the child comes into the employee’s care.

  • Approval of Leave Any leave of absence will be submitted to the Company for approval in writing. No approved leave of absence will affect any employee’s seniority rights when used for the purpose granted and providing the employee returns to work at the expiration of his/her leave.
