Ascertained Merit Points. 1. Testing for the rank of Captain Ascertained merit points are above and beyond the 100 points of the promotional examinations and shall be added to the candidate’s final combined score. Candidates may receive up to a maximum of five (5) points for the 2019 and beyond promotional exam cycles. A person requesting ascertained merit points holds the responsibility of providing proof of merit achievement, i.e., diploma, certificate, license, to Division III, prior to the initiation of this application process.

Ascertained Merit Points. Promotional candidates must provide the necessary certification and proof of participation in LZFD special team, committee, board affiliation, or advanced classes. -Special teams association must be one year prior to the expiration date of the current eligibility list for Lieutenant/Captain and be in good standing to be eligible for submission. -Education Points will be provided to the highest degree attained from an accredited college or university, for example, the candidate has an Associate’s degree and a Bachelor’s degree the Bachelor’s degree would be the only degree recognized for point submission. Only one degree can be submitted per level i.e. 2 Bachelor’s degrees only one can be submitted. -Advanced class points will not be accepted for classes required to be eligible for promotion, special team, committees, or job requirements e.g. VMO, FSVO, and Instructor I. Advanced classes shall be an accredited/certified: USFA, NFA, IFSI, OSFM, NWC EMSS, DHS or FEMA recognized course. The list of approved courses for the 2015 exam will be posted by June 1, 2013. The list shall be made available to anyone who requests it and posted in the training division. Once a course is approved, it can never be removed from the list. Furthermore, the Committee shall meet during each testing cycle to consider adding additional courses for the next promotional exam. All approved courses added to the initial list must be approved by the Committee and posted two years prior to promotional exam.
