Birth or Adoption. Up to five (5) days of sick leave shall be granted for birth or adoption of a child. In the case of adoption, and at the sole discretion of the Appointing Authority, additional sick leave may be granted to acquire the child, but in no case may the total leave granted exceed seven (7) days.

(1) working day at the time of the birth of his child by his spouse. In the case of adoption the employee will be granted a paid leave of one (1) working day on the day in which the child comes into the employee’s care.

Similarly, attendance just prior to, during, and following birth, can rarely be predicted with much accuracy. Generally it might be reasonable to grant some time under this provision where a father has been up most of the night (at birth) and needs half a day or so to recover. It is a section of the guidelines which requires an understanding application.
Birth or Adoption. 14.5.1. Upon request, one (1) day of leave with pay may be used by the teacher to attend the birth of their child, and one (1) day with pay to attend to the release from hospital of the child, and one (1) day with pay to take custody of their legally adopted child.
