Designation of Vacation Period. Employees shall be afforded a reasonable time to designate their preferred vacation period(s), with such selection to be made prior to January 1 of each year. The Director of Police and Fire Services shall schedule vacation leave with particular regard to department seniority of employees and with regard to departmental operating requirements and, insofar as possible, with the written request of the employees. Absence on account of sickness, injury or disability in excess of hereinafter authorized for such purposes, may, at the request of the employee and with the approval of the Director of Police and Fire Services, be charged against vacation leave accrual.

Designation of Vacation Period. Employees shall be afforded a reasonable time to designate their preferred vacation period, such selection to be made prior to commencement of the summer or winter period, as set forth above (Section 3). Selection shall be based upon seniority first by rank and second by seniority in the Department; provided an employee who has four (4) consecutive leave days takes precedence over any employee who has a lesser amount. Each unit shall select independently of the other.

  • Accumulation of Vacation Vacation leave may be accumulated to any amount provided that once during each fiscal year, each supervisor's accumulation must be reduced to two hundred and seventy-five (275) hours or less. If this is not accomplished on or before the last day of the fiscal year, the amount of vacation shall automatically be reduced to two hundred seventy-five (275) hours at the end of the fiscal year. Supervisors on a Military Leave under Appendix I shall earn vacation leave as though actually employed, without regard to the maximum accumulation set forth above. Vacation earned in excess of the maximum accumulation shall be taken within two (2) years of the date the supervisor returns from the Military Leave.

  • Restoration of Vacation Leave In the event an employee is injured or becomes ill while on vacation leave, the employee may submit a written request to use sick leave and have the equivalent amount of vacation leave restored. The supervisor may require a written medical certificate.

  • Cancellation of Vacation Leave When the Employer cancels or alters a period of vacation leave which it has previously approved in writing, the Employer shall reimburse the employee for the non-returnable portion of vacation contracts and reservations made by the employee in respect of that period, subject to the presentation of such documentation as the Employer may require. The employee must make every reasonable attempt to mitigate any losses incurred and will provide proof of such action, when available, to the Employer.
