EXTRA-DUTY PAY AND ASSIGNMENTS. The extra-duty pay schedules shall be established as set forth in Appendices which are attached to and made a portion of this Agreement. Extra-duty pay shall be allowed only for those jobs listed. Any newly created jobs and pay shall be negotiated by the parties using the Antioch District 34 Extra-Duty Stipend form. If the Board determines to fill extra-duty positions, principals shall attempt to fill the extra-duty positions with qualified teacher volunteers. In the absence of volunteers to accept extra-duty assignments, the Administration reserves the right to assign such duties in a non-discriminatory fashion to those teachers the Administration deems qualified to handle the activities, subject to the following: A. If no district teacher is interested in the position, the Board may employ a non-teacher. B. If two (2) or more district teachers and no qualified non-teachers are interested in the same position, the Board may appoint the teacher of its choice without regard to seniority. C. A standing joint committee shall be formed to make recommendations regarding administration of the extra-duty schedule. The committee will establish written criteria for making such recommendations with respect to all aspects of a club or activity placed on the extra-duty schedule. The Association and the Board shall each appoint committee members. All recommendations shall be advisory and shall be subject to the rights of the parties to negotiate wages, hours and terms and conditions of employment to the extent required by law or this Agreement.

In the event of involuntary assignment of a teacher, the Board agrees to do so on an annual rotating basis. The Board shall not involuntarily assign the same teacher year after year unless truly unavoidable. Likewise, in any year in which the Board determines to involuntarily assign a teacher, the teacher who held the position the prior year shall not be involuntarily assigned unless truly unavoidable. B. If two (2) or more district teachers and no qualified non-teachers are interested in the same position, the Board may appoint the teacher of its choice without regard to seniority. C. If both district teacher(s) and qualified non-teacher(s) are interested in the same position, the Board may proceed in any of the following directions: 1. appoint one of the interested teachers as provided under sub-paragraph 2 above; or 2. offer one of the non-teachers a nearly identical or very similar position; or 3. appoint one of the non-teachers to the position provided the Board offers one of the interested teachers of its choice, without regard to seniority, a nearly identical or very similar position at no less than the stipend of the position to which the non-teacher was appointed; or 4. appoint one interested non-teacher and one interested teacher as co-coaches or co-sponsors of the same extra- duty position at no loss of stipend to the teacher. If the teacher refuses co-assignment, the Board is under no further obligation to that teacher or any other teacher. D. In addition, the parties agree that the time lines for statement of interest in the extra-duty position, application, interview, etc., shall be identical for both teacher and non-teacher candidates.   • TEACHING LOADS AND ASSIGNMENTS A. The staff will be surveyed prior to the end of each school year to determine teaching preference for the next school term. E Because the Board of Education has the statutory duty to educate all children within the boundaries of the school district and those participating in schools of choice, and because the student/teacher ratio is an important aspect of the educational program, and because the number of students the teacher is required to instruct has a direct bearing upon the amount of work required of the individual teacher, the parties agree the size of the individual classes shall be given careful consideration to balance them by the administration. Upon the request of the teacher or association, if educationally appropriate, or economically feasible all options not limited to: balancing class loads, hiring a paraprofessional, or not being able to do anything will be considered. Discussion on whether to do so will be done by the 4th Wednesday count day.

  • Variation and Assignment No variation of this agreement shall be valid or effective unless it is in writing. We may amend this TOBA by sending you either a notice of amendment in writing or a revised TOBA.
