Graduate Credits. Graduate credits on the salary schedule are semester credits. Term credits shall be considered two-thirds (2/3) of a semester credit. Graduate credits to be considered for advancement on the salary schedule shall meet the following conditions:
A. Prior to advancement on the salary schedule beyond a BA, a teacher must submit Section I of the “Application for Planned Program/Additional Course Work” to the Superintendent prior to registration. (See Appendix F). The Superintendent will either approve or deny its submission.
B. For advancement on the salary schedule, the following guidelines will be followed:
1. Graduate credits must be in an area specifically related to the teacher’s areas of responsibility.
2. The Superintendent may consult with the College/University Registrar as to whether the additional course work is related to the teacher’s areas of responsibility.
Graduate Credits. 4.1.1 Graduate credits earned through colleges and universities accredited to grant advanced degrees will be acceptable provided they are recognized as fulfillment of requirements for graduate programs within the institution where the credits are completed, or when transcripted by an accredited graduate school.
4.1.2 Credits earned through colleges and universities not authorized to grant advanced degrees, but which are permitted to teach graduate-level courses by the recognized accrediting agency (i.e., NCATE), shall be acceptable provided they meet the other criteria specified in this Section.
4.1.3 Credits which are informally described and advertised as graduate credits by an institution accredited to offer graduate degree programs, but which are not acceptable in fulfillment of graduate degree requirements of that institution, are unacceptable, except as provided in 4.1.1 of this Subd.
Graduate Credits. (1) The Employer will reimburse employees ninety-five percent (95%) of the amount of tuition and fees actually paid by such employee up to the Millersville University rate per graduate credit and fees (or in the case of courses taken under (5) below, the undergraduate rate) for courses which are (1) in the subject area of the employee’s current assignment; or (2) in general instructional techniques; or (3) in classroom management directly related to classroom application; or (4) in subject areas which are applicable toward a new certification; or (5) undergraduate courses required for obtaining highly qualified status under NCLB.
(2) No more than a total of twelve (12) qualifying graduate or undergraduate credits are eligible for reimbursement during each school year (July 1 through June 30) for credits obtained up to the Master’s degree plus thirty (30) credits classification. No more than a total of nine (9) qualifying graduate or undergraduate credits are eligible for reimbursement during each school year (July 1 through June 30) for credits obtained between the Master’s degree plus thirty (30) credits classification and the Master’s degree plus forty-five (45) credits classification. No more than a total of six (6) qualifying graduate or undergraduate credits are eligible for reimbursement during each school year (July 1 through June 30) for credits obtained between the Master’s degree plus forty-five (45) credits classification and the Master’s degree plus sixty (60) credits classification.
(3) Credits may not be carried over to the proximate year for reimbursement, except in the following cases:
a. an employee on leave of absence for professional development may be reimbursed for as many as fifteen (15) credits per semester while on such leave (with respect to a one semester leave, the employee may submit up to twelve (12) credits for reimbursement in the school year during which the leave occurs and may carry forward up to three (3) credits; with respect to a two semester leave, an employee may submit up to eighteen
Graduate Credits. Column movement beyond the Masters column must include at least six (6) graduate credits of the fifteen (15) credits required. The transition to this new provision shall occur as follows: Teachers who, as of June 30, 2004, have accumulated:
Graduate Credits. Teachers new to the profession are required to earn 24 credits for permanent certification. These credits shall be earned as part of a Master’s Degree. The +10, +20, +30, +45 credits, as listed on the Salary Schedule, will be credits earned as part of a Master’s Degree or credits approved by the Superintendent as Master’s level credits. Teachers who attain National Board Certification as defined by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards shall receive an additional non-cumulative stipend of three thousand dollars ($3,000) per year for each year that the National Board Certification is maintained.
Graduate Credits. (2) No more than a total of twelve (12) qualifying graduate or undergraduate credits are eligible for reimbursement during each school year (July 1 through June 30) for credits obtained up to the Master’s degree plus thirty (30) credits classification. No more than a total of nine (9) qualifying graduate or undergraduate credits are eligible for reimbursement during each school year (July 1 through June 30) for credits obtained between the Master’s degree plus thirty
Graduate Credits. (a) The limitation of six (6) credits per year on in-service credits shall not be construed to limit the number of graduate credits from an accredited college or university a teacher may take in any year.
(b) Graduate courses will be acceptable for salary credit if:
1. the institution is regionally accredited, or
2. the institution is accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency, or
3. the accrediting agency is the Board of Regents, or
4. the accrediting agency is recognized by the U.S. Office of Education, and
5. Graduate courses must be provided by the instructional faculty of the college or university at which the course is taken. Credits earned through such courses must be acceptable by the college or university for any graduate degree-bearing program. Such courses must be directly relevant to the subject(s) taught by the teacher or constitute courses in instructional methodology which are applicable to the teacher's program. Where a teacher has been accepted into a Master's program approved by the District, all courses in that program will be deemed relevant pursuant to this subparagraph.
(c) Credit may be awarded for correspondence, video and internet (on-line) courses on a case by case basis.
(d) Subject to the provisions of Paragraph (b)(5), regarding relevance, NYSUT courses shall be accepted as graduate courses.
Graduate Credits. (a) The limitation of six (6) credits per year on in-service credits shall not be construed to limit the number of graduate credits from an accredited college or university a teacher may take in any year.
(b) Graduate courses will be acceptable for salary credit if:
1. the institution is regionally accredited, or
2. the institution is accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency, or 4. the accrediting agency is recognized by the U.S. Office of Education, and
Graduate Credits. 1. Graduate credits and in-service credits will be remunerated in blocks of twelve (12). Teachers hired on or before June 30, 2013, will have up to a maximum of one hundred eighteen (118) such credits. Teachers hired after June 30, 2013 will have up to a maximum of one hundred (100) such credits.
2. Courses approved for graduate credit must be designated as graduate level courses by an accredited institution offering the course and must be taken subsequent to the earning of the Bachelor’s Degree.
3. For teachers hired on or after January 1, 2002, the Superintendent, at his or her sole discretion, shall determine the number of credits, prior to their hire, for which each individual teacher shall receive remuneration. Teachers hired prior to January 1, 2002 who did not receive credit in excess of 30, which were required for their Masters Degree, shall receive half credit for each credit not previously remunerated.
4. Effective July 1, 2013, the maximum amount of graduate credits and in-service credits to be submitted per year is twelve (12).
Graduate Credits. 1. Individual graduate courses taken by a teacher for salary credit and not previously approved as part of an approved graduate program must be part of an accredited university, and/or part of a CTLE-sponsored institution in order to qualify for lane movement in each column. Any and all other courses must receive prior approval from the Superintendent at least fifteen (15) days in advance of registration for the course.
2. When a teacher is involved in a masters or doctorate program and has matriculated in a college or university program, prior approval by the Superintendent of Schools of the course requirements for the entire program must be obtained. Once such approval has been obtained, individual courses within the program need not be approved, but Course Approval forms must be submitted to maintain records for lane changes.
3. No credit will be given for duplicate courses.
4. The parties agree to convene a committee of an equal number of members designated by the Superintendent and the MPTA President, respectively. The charge of the committee shall be to evaluate third party vendors and/or institutions that issue continuing education credits. The committee will create and provide a list of vendors/institutions that may not be used toward graduate level credit. For the 2023-24 year, an initial list will be created by the committee no later than September 30, 2023. The committee will reconvene by May 1 of each year to reevaluate and revise said list. This list will be distributed to all unit members. Nothing hereinabove shall limit the authority of the Superintendent to grant or deny approval of courses/course credit as set forth in sub-paragraphs 1- 3 above.
b. After September 1, 1969, a course successfully completed after meeting all baccalaureate or master's degree requirements, but prior to the actual conferral of the degree, will be acceptable for the post-baccalaureate or post-master's credit for salary adjustments. Baccalaureate or master's degree requirements referred to above may include a comprehensive examination and/or a thesis.
c. Two master's degrees will be held to be at least the equivalent of M.A. +30.
d. Adjustments for point credits will be annual as of February 1st each year. Applications for adjustments must be submitted with full and proper documentation prior to March 15th (for February 1st adjustment.)
