Graduate Employment Rate. Graduate employment is defined as the percentage of graduates in the labour force who are employed during the reference week (i.e. first week of the seventh month following their study completion), where labour force is defined as those employed, those not employed but looking for a job or those not employed but had accepted a job to start shortly. Employment Rate Formula: (1+2)/(1+2+3+4)*100 SCHEDULE C TERMS OF PAYMENT The school shall pay to the Contractor the sum based on the following formula: Total Payment = Number of completed surveys x $ 24 per completed survey + $ 150 tabulation charge + $ 150 grad rate calculation + late payment charges (if applicable) + data file formatting charges + HST or, $ 400 + HST (whichever is greater) The total payment, plus HST is due according to the following schedule: Minimum payment, due prior to start of survey $ 400 plus HST or, Deposit payment, due prior to start of survey, if more than the minimum charge, calculated as, number of graduates x 60% (the estimated completion rate) x 50% x $ 24 plus HST Balance of total payment is to be made to the survey firm prior to the release of the Final Report of the Survey Results to the School. The Career Centre at Trent hosts a number of events to assist students in gaining employment. A yearly Career Fair is held at Trent which, for 2009-10, had 24 employers represented and was attended by nearly 850 students. A virtual career fair was held for nursing students with 17 potential employers represented. On-campus recruitment information sessions were also held for 21 potential employers. Each year the Trent University School of Education and Professional Learning hosts an Alternative and Overseas Employment Fair. The fair introduces Teacher Candidates to a variety of alternative employment opportunities that may be available to them when they graduate from the program. Some of the areas of alternative employment that have been involved in the past include Apply to Education, Occasional/Supply Teaching, Teaching in the Far North, and Teaching Overseas. District School Boards are also invited to attend and provide Teacher Candidates with information about employment opportunities and the application and hiring process. For the first time during the 2009-10 academic year, Xxxxx'x business program offered a new field-based study course. This hands-on fourth-year course enables students to gain real world experience working with businesses in the local community while receiving course credit.

As a high quality educator preparing individuals for technical careers within the Armed Forces, we continued to strengthen our partnership with the Canadian Forces by preparing approximately a dozen students from Northwestern Ontario for career opportunities. The “Non-Commissioned Member Subsidized Education Plan” provided qualified learners with a salary while completing their education and prepared them for guaranteed career opportunities. This initiative arrangement was part of a strategic plan to provide technically qualified personnel for a modern Canadian Military. Mining exploration north of Lake Superior is offering a way out of economic stagnation for many communities but will also provide an economic and social impact that is far-reaching creating a multitude of employment opportunities. The College positioned itself so its learners could benefit from the Ring of Fire initiatives by devising a planning process to help meet the immediate and future needs of the regional mining industry thus ensuring the employability of graduates for years to come. We have updated programs like accounting (based on specific program like accounting advisory committee’s recommendations) into ones that have a final semester placement. This practical experience coupled with our applied curriculum results in a higher employment rate in fields like Human Resources (where local firms have told us they would always hire a Confederation Graduate over a University graduate all others things being equal).
