Language Premium. Effective upon ratification of this Agreement by both parties, employees assigned to perform bilingual, interpretive and/or translation services for the City shall receive a two hundred dollar ($200.00) per month premium pay. The City shall ensure employees providing language access services are independently evaluated and approved. The City may review the assignment annually and may terminate the assignment at any time.

An employee fluent in a language prevalent in the community served by MHCD or useful among MHCD consumers shall be entitled to a $1.00 per hour premium above the employee's regular hourly rate. Rate for Spanish and American Sign Language shall be $2.50 per hour. Employees fluent in more than one language shall not be eligible for more than one premium. Prior to receiving the premium, an employee shall be tested to ensure fluency sufficient to assist a consumer with clinical interactions. Any employee already receiving the language premium as of December 31, 2008 shall continue to receive the premium.

The stipend shall be paid to eligible employees per pay period on a 5 pro-rated basis. Eligible employees shall be required to pass a language proficiency test administered 6 by the County. The County retains the discretion to determine the number of employees that may 7 qualify for the premium.
Language Premium. If a guide is required to guide using more than one language, a 20% premium is paid on the hourly rate for each additional language.

(Details about how this work will be assigned and to whom are still under development and subject to negotiation.) Boot allowance: Boot reimbursement for eligible employees (those who are required to wear specific footwear due to safety requirements related to their classification) will rise from $140 in 2019, to $175.00 in 2020 and $200.00 in 2021. Bereavement Leave: Five (5) days off with pay shall be granted for bereavement purposes to an employee in the event of the death of a relative or family member, including domestic partner.
