Union Engagement and Payroll Deductions. The City agrees to deduct from the paycheck of each employee, who xxx.xx authorized it, the regular initiation fee, regular monthly dues, assessments and other fees as certified by the Union.The amounts deducted shall be transmitted monthly to the Union on behalf of the employees involved. The performance of this function is recognized as a service to the Union by the City and The City shall honor the terms and conditions of each worker's Union payroll deduction authorization(s) for the purposes of dues deduction only. The Union agrees to indemnify and hold the Employer harmless from all claims, demands, suits or other forms of liability that arise against the Employer for deducting dues from Union members, including those that have communicated a desire to revoke a previous deduction authorization, along with all other issues related to the deduction of dues or fees. The City will provide the Union access to all newly hired employees and/or persons entering the bargaining unit within thirty (30) days of such hire or entry into the bargaining unit. The Union and a shop xxxxxxx/member leader will have at least thirty (30) minutes with such individuals during the employee's normal working hours and at their usual worksite or mutually agreed upon location. The City will require all new employees to attend a New Employee Orientation (NEO) within thirty (30) days of hire. The NEO will include an at-minimum thirty (30) minute presentation by a Union representative to all employees covered by a collective bargaining agreement. At least five (5)working days before the date of the NEO, the City shall provide the Union with a list of names of their bargaining unit attending the Orientation. The individual Union meeting and NEO shall satisfy the City's requirement to provide a New Employee Orientation Union Presentation under Washington State law. The City of Seattle, including its officers, supervisors, managers and/or agents, shall remain neutral on the issue of whether any bargaining unit employee should join the Union or otherwise participate in Union activities at the City of Seattle.
