Lead Screening. In accordance with Texas Health & Safety Code Chapter 88 and related rules at 25 Tex. Admin. Code Chapter 37, Subchapter Q, Provider must (1) report all blood lead results to the Childhood Lead Poisoning Program (if not performed at the DSHS state laboratory) and (2) follow-up on suspected or confirmed cases of childhood lead exposure with the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program, and follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines for testing children for lead and follow-up actions for children with elevated lead levels located at xxxx://xxx.xxxx.xxxxx.xx.xx/lead/pdf_files/pb_109_physician_reference.pdf.
Lead Screening. 7.9.3.5 The Contractor shall promote and inform providers of the requirements for the appropriate screening of lead toxicity. Regardless of health risk, the Contractor shall require in its Provider Contracts that Network Providers arrange for a blood lead screening test for all EPSDT Eligible children at twelve (12) and twenty-four (24) months of age. Children between twenty-four (24) and seventy-two (72) months of age should receive a blood lead screening test if there is no record of a previous test.

Lead Screening. Measure: The percentage of one and two year olds who received a blood lead screening by age group. County-Based Target: At least 80% of the eligible population receive a blood lead screening. County-Based Minimum Performance Standard for Each of the Age Groups: The level of improvement must result in at least a 10% decrease in the difference between the target and the previous year’s results. Action Required for Noncompliance (1 year olds): If the standard is not met and the results are below 45% then the MCP is required to complete a Performance Improvement Project, as described in Appendix K, Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement Program, to address the area of noncompliance. If the standard is not met and the results are at or above 45%, then ODJFS will issue a Quality Improvement Directive which will notify the MCP of noncompliance and may outline the steps that the MCP must take to improve the results. Action Required for Noncompliance (2 year olds): If the standard is not met and the results are below 28% then the MCP is required to complete a Performance Improvement Project, as described in Appendix K, Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement Program, to address the area of noncompliance. If the standard is not met and the results are at or above 28%, then ODJFS will issue a Quality Improvement Directive which will notify the MCP of noncompliance and may outline the steps that the MCP must take to improve the results.
