Motor Vehicle Safety. Subrecipient is encouraged to develop policies and programs for the use of seat belts while driving and for the banning of cell phone use or texting while driving.

To ensure the safety of children placed in (my/our) care, (I/we) agree to adhere to the following safety precautions while riding or driving motorized vehicles: • Secure children under age 8 in a federally approved child safety restraint seat, that is properly installed according to the manufacturer's instructions. • Secure children 8 years and older in the rear seat of the vehicle with federally approved and properly installed safety seat belts. • Refrain from transporting children/youth under 18 years of age in the bed of a pickup truck at any time. In keeping with this requirement, (I/we) agree to adhere to the following: • Provide appropriate adult supervision for the children in my care at all times. • Refrain from leaving children placed in my care in the supervision of minors. • Refrain from leaving children unattended in a motor vehicle. • Refrain from leaving children in the care of unauthorized adult caretakers. Any substitute caretaker should have the agency's approval. • Obtain approval from the agency prior to leaving older children unsupervised. Motor Vehicle Safety. As a condition of employment for employees who will operate district vehicles or who are split-shift employees that will drive as part of their normal work responsibilities, the District, at its expense, will request a Motor Vehicle Record. Only employees who have received Administrative authorization are able to operate district vehicles. Employees will operate district vehicles safely at all times. Employees who are authorized to operate district vehicles are required to report any violations that have resulted in suspension or revocation of their driving privileges. Lack of notification will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment. Employees who are split-shift employees that drive their personal vehicles as part of their normal work responsibilities must annually provide evidence of personal auto insurance coverage, which meets or exceeds Illinois’s required minimum auto insurance limits.

Children must always be properly secured with safety seat belts. • Consult with the Caseworker prior to allowing a child to ride as a passenger or driver on any high- speed watercraft and other similarly motorized vehicles • To protect young children from air bag injuries, adoptive parents are required to transport children 12 years old and under in the rear seat of the vehicle, with seat belts buckled up • All children in care, regardless of age, must be individually secured (one child to a seat belt) by an appropriately fitting seat belt when being transported in a motorized vehicle
