Network Protocol. The King County Special Assault Protocol (this document) is the guiding document for the network of agencies that work together to create a coordinated response to adult sexual assault, child sexual abuse (including child exploitation) and child physical abuse in King County. For children, the Children’s Justice Center of King County coordinates the MDT response. PC - Probable Cause. Sufficient reason based upon known facts to believe a crime has been committed or that certain property is connected with a crime.

Proper Law Enforcement Agency - Any police agency that has geographical jurisdiction over the location where the crime occurred. Protective Custody (PC) – Law enforcement may take, or cause to be taken, a child into custody without a court order if there is probable cause to believe that the child is abused or neglected and that the child would be injured or could not be taken into custody if it were first necessary to obtain a court order. SAK – Sexual Assault Kit. A container that includes the necessary materials and instructions to collect forensic evidence after a sexual assault. SANE - Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. A registered nurse specifically trained to provide care to sexual assault patients. Special Assault - Term used to denote the crimes of rape, sexual assault, child fatality, commercial sexual exploitation of children and Victim Services - A program or organization that provides comprehensive services to victims and their families including access to specialized medical services, support, crisis response, information and referral, legal advocacy and counseling services. Victim services programs also provide information, referral, and consultation to community members.

Admission requirements and procedure In order to join the Network, a hospital should: • Be established in one of the Member States of the European Union or of the European Economic Area; • Appoint a liaison officer who will act as the main representative and be the contact point for the hospital member; • Adhere to and respect the Core values of the Network’s members1; • Participate in the activities of the Network.
