NEW DRIVERS. Two new drivers are iden- tified, namely ‘Problem match’ and ‘Being willing to collab- orate’. Although the benefits of collaboration are discussed in the literature [30] [40], we did not find being willing to collaborate to be a driver for blockchain adoption in the literature. This driver also links to our second driver found ‘Problem match’. As argued by several experts “There is little point in setting up a blockchain solution for your own use as its strengths do not come into play”. Using a blockchain, therefore, should address a problem in which multiple parties are involved. To address such a problem, an organisation should be willing to collaborate with other organisations. Clearly this driver is top of mind among all eight experts. This is in contrast to our expectations, as we expected that the majority of experts would mention the technological advan- tages of blockchain. After all, blockchain is a new technology, and we expected that organisations would adopt a technology because of its unique features. In fact, six experts do not mention the technological advantages as a driver at all, one expert considers that these advantages are not a driver (nor an impediment), and only one expert considers these advantages to be a driver, see Table I. This suggests that organisations do not adopt blockchain for its unique technological advantages. the driver ‘Competitive pressure’ could be a leading driver in blockchain adoption.
