Ratio of Apprentices a) Subject to Article 26.2 b) below, the ratio of apprentices employed by the Employer may be a minimum of one (1) Apprentice to each five (5) Journeymen Operating Engineers in his employ, but in all cases, the ratio shall be a minimum of one (1) Apprentice to each ten (10) Journeymen Operating Engineers or as otherwise authorized in writing by the Union.

1. In conjunction with the L.I.U.N.A. Local 183 Life Long Learning Centre, the Ontario Concrete & Drain Contractors’ Association (OCDCA) agrees to the development of a Training Curriculum, prepared by the Centre and directed to the employees of the OCDCA member companies.
2. It is understood that,
a. Ergonomic Training, and
b. Trench Safety and Hazard Awareness, Will be integral components of said curriculum.
3. Effective May 1, 2019 the Union and OCDCA will establish a Training Review Committee which will meet on or before July 1, 2019 and thereafter at least two times per year to:
a. Review, and if appropriate recommend the Training Curriculum be revised;
b. Discuss any additional training courses to promote the industry;
c. To develop strategies to encourage workers to join and remain in the industry; and
d. Develop strategies to ensure that contractors hire and promote those Trainees who graduate from the Training Centre.

The ratio of Earthmoving Apprentices employed by the Employer may be a minimum of one Earthmoving Apprentice to each five (5) Journeymen Operating Engineers in his employ, but in all cases subject to paragraph below, the ratio shall be a minimum of one (1) Earthmoving Apprentice to each seven (7) Operating Engineers or as otherwise authorized in writing by the Union. Ratio of Apprentices. No new apprentices shall be hired when the ratio of apprentices to all mechanic journeymen in the bargaining unit is greater than two (2) to five (5).

Ratio of Apprentices. An employer shall have the right to employ apprentices at the following ratio to journeymen carpenters: One Apprentice for the 1st journeyman and one apprentice for every two journeymen thereafter. When an employer has four carpenters working, as journeymen the 5th shall be an apprentice, if available.
