Rehire Employees. If a current employee eligible for rehire is reappointed to a class in which the employee previously held permanent or probationary status or to a parallel class with prior approval of the Director of the Division of Personnel under Article 11.06, the appointing authority may make the appointment at the same step in the salary range for the class that the employee occupied before separation provided that the rehire occurs within a period of two (2) years. If appointed above the beginning step of the range, the employee's merit anniversary date shall be the sixteenth (16th) of the month following completion of one (1) year of service after rehire. Pursuant to Article 11.06, if a current employee is rehired with prior approval of the Director of the Division of Personnel in a lower class in the same class series, the employee may be paid at the step in the range of the lower class of positions that best reflects the earned step based on creditable State service or at such other step approved in advance of the first (1st) day of work by the Director of the Division of Personnel.

An employee who is appointed to a position in a lower job classification not in the same, parallel or closely related class series shall be paid at the step in the range of the lower class of positions that best reflects the earned step based on creditable State service. The employee shall serve a new probationary period in the lower class and shall have a new merit anniversary date established.
