Section 14.4.1. 33 Substitute employees are governed only by Article I, Sections 1.4.4, 1.4.4.1, and the 34 sections listed below. Substitute employees working more than twenty (20) consecutive 35 shifts or thirty (30) shifts during any single fiscal year shall be considered employees for 36 purposes of the agreement listed herein. Such status may not be lost unless the employee 37 separates from employment in accordance with the provisions of this agreement, or is a 38 voluntary quit. Seniority preference rights of such individuals shall be effective only with 39 respect to other substitute employees.   • Section 14.3 18 The parties recognize that an employee should have the option of declining to participate as a member 19 in the Association, yet contribute financially to the activities of the Association in representing such 20 employee as a member of the collective bargaining unit. Therefore, as an alternative to, and in lieu of 21 the membership requirements of the previous sections of this Article, an employee who declines 22 membership in the Association may pay to the Association each month a representation fee as a 23 contribution towards the administration of this Agreement in an amount equal to the regular monthly 24 dues. This representation fee shall be collected by the Association in the same manner as monthly 25 dues. 26
