Travel Assistance Service. The travel assistance firm provides travel assistance services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to any insured person making such a request, anywhere in the world, except in countries at war or covered by a warning to travellers making it materially impossible for the travel assistance firm to intervene.
a) Cash advances for expenses covered by travel insurance. Thereafter, the travel assistance firm claims reimbursement of the incurred expenses from the public hospital insurance and health insurance plans of the province of residence of the insured person and from the Insurer.
b) In the event of accident or illness abroad, the travel assistance firm provides any necessary medical information in the form of simple advice and information, as well as the contact details for a medical facility. If necessary, the travel assistance firm facilitates the insured person’s admission into an appropriate clinic or hospital.
c) Subject to this contract, in the event that the insured person has an accident or contracts an illness outside her province of residence and as soon as it receives notice thereof, the travel assistance firm arranges the necessary contacts between its medical service, the attending physician and the family physician, if applicable, in order to make the best decisions for the situation.
d) The travel assistance firm transmits urgent messages when the insured person is unable to do so herself.
e) As far as possible, the travel assistance firm sends prescription drugs that are essential to the continuation of a treatment in progress, if they or their equivalent cannot be obtained on-site. In any case, the insured person pays for the prescription drugs, which are then reimbursed by the Insurer, if eligible.
f) On presentation of receipts, the travel assistance firm reimburses the insured person for telephone and other communication expenses incurred to gain access to its services in the event of difficulties encountered abroad.
g) At the request of the insured person, the travel assistance firm provides all necessary information, in the case of major problems during the insured person’s trip, as a result of loss of her passport, visa, credit card, etc.
h) The travel assistance firm offers a multilingual telephone interpreting service to the insured person encountering difficulties abroad.

Travel Assistance Service provides help, primarily in medical emergencies during travel. This service is employed by Alberta Blue Cross and has the authorization to act on behalf of Alberta Blue Cross.
Travel Assistance Service. Alberta Blue Cross, through its Travel Assistance Service provider, will provide an emergency toll-free line available twenty four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week for Participants who need medical assistance or general assistance while travelling outside of Alberta. The Travel Assistance Service has the authorization to act on behalf of Us. If the Participant requires Hospitalization or a consultation with a Physician as a result of an Emergency, the Travel Assistance Service provider appointed by Us will provide the following support services: • Referral to an appropriate Physician, clinic or Hospital. • Confirmation of coverage with the Hospital or Physician. • Arrangement of payment to the Hospital or Physician. • Supervision of medical Treatment. • Arrangement of transportation of a family member to the patient’s bedside. • Arrangement for transportation to identify the deceased. • Arrangement for transportation home of the patient, if medically permissible. • Arrange repatriation of remains when death occurs outside of Alberta. • Emergency response in most major languages. • Assistance in contacting family members, business partners or family Physician. • Transmission of urgent messages to family members or business partners. • Arrangement for local care of Dependents, Coordination of the return home travel for Dependents if you are hospitalized. Alberta Blue Cross and the Travel Assistance Service provider are not responsible for the availability, quality or results of any medical Treatment or transportation or your failure to obtain medical Treatment. Your Eligible Trip Limit is based on the Coverage Level for the Health Benefit Module you selected. The first Extension must be purchased prior to your date of departure from Alberta, after that, additional Extensions for that Eligible Trip can be purchased before the Eligible Trip Limit for that trip expires. Travel Assistance Service. In a medical emergency outside your province or territory of residence, contact must be made with our travel assistance service provider before hospitalization, so that we may:
a. make the necessary arrangements to direct you to an appropriate clinic or hospital; and
b. provide pre-approval of treatment. If it is impossible for you to make contact prior to obtaining medical attention, we ask you to make contact as soon as possible or have someone make contact on your behalf. If you, or someone on your behalf, do not contact the travel assistance service provider prior to hospitalization, your claim may be denied. The travel assistance service provider has the authorization to act on our behalf. The travel assistance service provider will:
a. assist you in locating an appropriate physician, clinic or hospital;
b. provide information and coordinate payment to the hospital and physician;
c. monitor your medical treatment and keep your family informed;
d. arrange for your transportation home, if medically permissible;
e. arrange the transportation of a family member to your bedside or to identify remains;
f. arrange repatriation of remains when death occurs away from home;
g. provide emergency response in most major languages, 24 hours per day, seven days per week;
h. assist in contacting family, a business partner or a family physician;
i. coordinate local care of dependants or grandchildren with an escort if necessary if you are hospitalized;
x. coordinate the return home of dependants or grandchildren with an escort if necessary if you are hospitalized;
x. arrange the transmission of urgent messages to family members or business partners;
l. coordinate with government embassies, airlines, tour operators, travel agents and others who will assist in the event of an emergency;
m. assist in the event of loss of passports or airline tickets;
n. assist in locating legal counsel in the event of a serious accident; and
o. coordinate claims processing and health care provider discounts.
Travel Assistance Service provides assistance, primarily in medical emergencies, during travel and who is authorized to act on behalf of Alberta Blue Cross. Treatment: a medical therapeutic or diagnostic procedure prescribed, performed or recommended by a Physician or Dentist, including but not limited to prescribed medication, investigative testing, and surgery. Treatment does not include the unaltered use of prescribed medication for a medical condition or a medical examination in which a Physician observes no change in a previously identified condition or investigative testing where a medical condition was not diagnosed.
