Additional Teaching Assignment. Instructors who accept an additional teaching assignment will be reimbursed based on the following formula: Number of additional minutes taught weekly divided by 2100 minutes times the individual’s step and class on the salary schedule equals annual compensation for the contract period. Additional Minutes Taught Additional teaching assignments are defined as follows: PreK6 - Any assignment that eliminates any part of a teacher’s designated daily planning period. A planning period is defined as a block of time not less than 20 minutes or in excess of 120 minutes.

Additional Teaching Assignment. If a teaching assignment is scheduled and the District desires to fill this position with an existing staff member within the building who holds a full time work load and said individual wishes to accept such teaching assignment, the member of the bargaining unit shall be paid 1/900 of the member's annual salary for each teaching period worked. 1. Preference will be given to the senior staff member within licensure, area of teaching, and teaching experience. 2. This provision does not pertain to emergency substitute assignments included in ARTICLE 15,
Additional Teaching Assignment. Employees may receive up to .2 FTE when they are assigned to take over the full teaching responsibility for an extra class section (secondary) or classroom (elementary) on an ongoing basis in addition to a full teaching schedule for classroom-based teachers or in addition to the full responsibilities of a department chair or teacher expert position. The added FTE will be paid out by addenda at the end of each semester, prorated to days worked if less than the full term of the semester.
Additional Teaching Assignment. When a HS teacher (7-12 certification) accepts a schedule of six (6) classes, the teacher shall be paid an additional amount above his/her salary equivalent to 20% of their individual teacher salary. When the sixth period class is not for the entire year, this amount will be prorated. The additional teaching assignment shall be subject to the following conditions: a) Both parties agree that the additional teaching period (as noted above) should ideally be a voluntary assignment. When a sixth teaching period position is anticipated, the position shall be posted according to current practice. Interested staff with the proper certification may voluntarily apply for the position. The administration may choose if there is more than one qualified candidate. Should no one volunteer, the administration may assign a staff member to the position with the following limitations: i. Non-tenured staff members shall not be chosen to teach a 6th period class unless there is no other staff member with the proper certification. ii. No full or part time bargaining unit members shall lose a position or be reduced as a result of the creation of additional teaching assignments. b) It is understood that these assignments are for the purpose of short-term emergency leaves (i.e. mid-year, short term parental, emergency sick, etc.). c) The district must demonstrate that it exhausted all efforts to hire a short term qualified substitute teacher. d) It is understood if a teacher is assigned to a 6th period teaching class, it may be in conflict with other components of the HTA contract related to workload. e) All prep time and professional time will be honored.

  • TEACHING LOADS AND ASSIGNMENTS A. The normal teaching load in the senior high school will consist of an average of five (5) daily teaching periods and one (1) period of preparation, or the equivalent thereof. The normal teaching load at the middle school will consist of an average of five (5) daily teaching periods and one (1) period of preparation for core curriculum teachers. Related academics teachers at the middle school will teach five (5) periods per day on average with one (1) period of preparation. The term “preparation period” shall be construed to include the use of this period for purposes other than preparation that would be considered reasonable professional responsibilities or for purposes other than preparation when emergencies arise. The Association agrees that the purpose of non-teaching time (other than lunch periods) is to permit the teacher to have time during the school day for planning, conferences, preparations for teaching and related teaching functions and obligations concerned with the actual teaching assignment. The normal teaching load in the elementary schools for classroom and elementary teaching specialists will be approximately 26.5 hours of classroom duties weekly, or the equivalent thereof. Elementary teachers may use for preparation all the time during which their classes are receiving instruction from teaching specialists in the areas of elementary art, music, and physical education, and during the time of the 20 minute recess period when the students are under the direct supervision of hired playground aides. In addition, one-half (1/2) hour of the delayed start professional development days will be reserved for personal planning. Consistent with the above requirements, the Board shall determine the equivalence for employees in the bargaining unit who are assigned to non-classroom duties, such as librarians, guidance counselors, and itinerant personnel, etc. Travel time for all itinerant personnel shall count as contact time. The class size of an elementary teaching specialist will not exceed that of the elementary classroom teacher whose class they have for instruction (i.e., they will not have more than one teacher’s class during an instruction period). Exceptions will be made to accommodate students from self-contained special education classrooms. Department chairmen shall be appointed by the Administration and have such released time for their duties as the Administration deems necessary.
