Breaking of Ties. Employees with the same beginning date of employment shall have their seniority determined by lot and shall be assigned a “rank” to identify the order of seniority. The individual assigned rank 01 has the greatest seniority among the employees with the same beginning date of employment. The last four digits of each teacher’s Social Security number is used to determine rank. The tie-breaker is determined by the first of the last four digits, or if the first digits are the same, by the second digit; if needed, the third digit and then the fourth digit are used. 2nd Highest Seniority - 0 7th Highest Seniority - 2 4th Highest Seniority - 9 9th Highest Seniority - 5 5th Highest Seniority - 6 10th Highest Seniority - 4

Breaking of Ties. If two (2) employees within the same category are equal in seniority, determination of the most senior employee shall be made annually by drawing lots in the presence of the affected employees and a representative of the Association at the time seniority becomes an issue.

In the event that more than one (1) individual bargaining unit member within the same category of position has the same starting date of work, position on the seniority list shall be determined by the Director or his/her designee based on the employee’s prior work experience, job performance and educational history. If prior work experience, job performance and educational history are equal, the tie will be determined by drawing lots.

Non-Certified In the event district seniority is equal between non-certified employees in the same category of position, it will be based on the date of employment, and determined by the lowest number of the last four digits of the employee’s social security number. The employee with the lowest number shall have more seniority than employees with higher numbers.

If two (2) or more newly hired employees within the same category are equal in seniority, determination of the most senior employee shall be made by drawing lots in the presence of the affected employees and a representative of the Association within 10 business days following the Board approval of new hires. The new employees will be notified by mail of the results of the lot draw within 5 days of the draw. This order will be reflected on the next published seniority list.
