Placement on the Salary Schedule. Members of the bargaining unit shall be placed on the salary schedule at the step appropriate for training and creditable years of experience.
Placement on the Salary Schedule. All teachers shall be placed on the appropriate step in the salary schedule taking into consideration the following:
1. Degree status as defined under "Degree Definitions" below.
2. Full credit for each year up to seven (7) years' teaching experience in public, private, and military dependency schools1 provided that such experience shall have been continuous service of at least one-half of any school year and there has been no break in service greater than five (5) years. Intermittent or short-term substitute service will not be credited as previous teaching experience.
3. Veterans shall receive benefits for service in the armed forces in accordance with the Uniform Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA). Reinstatement shall be in accordance with the USERRA, as amended.
4. Any teacher receiving a change in degree status by mid-term will be paid one-half the provisions for that degree.
5. Credit for previous teaching experience exceeding seven (7) years or service in other occupations may be given as approved by the Superintendent.
6. Advancement to the Master's, Sixth Year, or Ph.D. salary schedule will be granted when a teacher submits a written statement from a responsible official of the graduate office of the college/university awarding the degree verifying completion of the requirements for the degree. Advancement will also be granted when a teacher completes a 30-credit program beyond the Bachelor's or Master's degree which has been mutually agreed upon in writing between the teacher and the Superintendent prior to the teacher's beginning the program, provided written verified completion of such program is received. In order to be applicable, courses will have been taken following the receipt of the Bachelor's degree and Master's degree, respectively. One-half of the above provisions will be paid for programs or credit completion by mid-term. Written documentation of successful completion of the graduate program (as set forth above) must be submitted prior to September 1st and prior to February 1st, in order to qualify for advance placement on the salary schedule.
7. Credit for degrees and/or credits earned through an online service of an accredited college or university shall be granted upon the Superintendent's approval and submission of written documentation of successful completion (as set forth above).

Placement on the Salary Schedule. A regular unit member, at the time he/she is hired, is placed on the first step of the appropriate range on the Classified Salary Schedule. The Chancellor may recommend initial placement above the first step, but normally not higher than the second step, if the unit member possesses previous related work experience which exceeds the District’s entry level qualification for the position as determined by the Chancellor.
Placement on the Salary Schedule. 1. For the purposes of placing teachers new to the system on the salary schedule, credit shall be granted on a 1:1 basis for all previous contracted teaching or administrative experience in fully accredited schools up to a maximum of four years. Credit for years of teaching experience exceeding the first four full years shall be granted on a 1:2 basis for an additional maximum credit of five (5) years. Not less than 135 days of continuous contracted employment in one school year shall count as a full year of teaching experience for purposes of placement on the Salary Schedule. (2017)
2. Licensed teachers who are teaching in specialty areas such as Family & Consumer Science or Industrial Technology may be provided educational years of experience at the rate of two (2) years of full time, full year private sector work experience for each year (2:1) of placement on the salary schedule. Credit for additional years of experience exceeding the first four (4) full years on the salary schedule shall be granted at the rate of one (1) year for each four (4) years of private sector full time experience for additional maximum credit of five (5) years. 3. A teacher who has been absent from teaching for seven (7) years or more at one time shall not be given credit for any teaching or administrative experience prior to the period of absence. (2017)
Placement on the Salary Schedule. The following rules shall be applicable in determining placement of a teacher on the appropriate salary schedule:
(A) All credits, which are applicable to salary schedule lane placement, shall be either "in-field" or "general education" credits that have been approved by the Superintendent or his/her designee in writing.
Placement on the Salary Schedule. A. Initial employment in the Suffield Public Schools.
1. New teachers to the Suffield Public Schools shall be placed on the appropriate step on the salary schedule. Full credit shall be granted on the prevailing schedule for prior teaching experience. However, teachers with the maximum years of teaching experience may be hired up to two steps below the stated maximum. The Superintendent may place a teacher "two steps above" that teacher’s years of previous teaching experience. The extent to which credit shall be granted shall be determined by the Superintendent. If the teacher is hired pursuant to the alternate route to certification or as a second career candidate following traditional preparation routes to certification, credit may be granted, not to exceed ten years, at the Superintendent’s discretion.
B. All other teachers shall be placed on the appropriate step on the salary schedule, taking into consideration the following:
1. Annual increments for each year of service in the Suffield School System, provided that the Board of Education may withhold individual increments for unsatisfactory service.
2. Degree status as defined under “Degree Definitions” Article 8.
3. As of September l, 1976, there shall be no military service credit except that those teachers receiving military credit on that date shall continue to receive such credit at the rate then in effect.
C. Any teacher expecting a change in degree status must notify the Superintendent no later than January 2 in order to be placed on the appropriate salary schedule for the following school year.
1. Teachers submitting documentation of said degree achievement prior to September will be placed on the new salary schedule for the first paycheck of the new school year.
2. Any teacher submitting documentation of degree achievement between September 1 and March 1 of the new school year, will be placed on the new salary schedule beginning with the next paycheck.
3. Teachers who submit documentation after March 1 of the new school year will not be placed on the appropriate schedule until September of the following school year.
4. The reason for notification no later than January 2 is in order that funds may be budgeted to meet the salary change in the next fiscal year.
D. In order for a teacher to be placed on the M.A., M.A.+30 or M.A.+ 45 salary column as a result of the completion of courses, the courses must be approved by the Superintendent or his/her designee in advance, as part of a planned program...
Placement on the Salary Schedule. 1. For teachers hired after July 1, 2004, experience credit for placement on the salary schedule shall be granted for prior full years of relevant teaching experience in an appropriate K-12 situation. Questions as to proper credit and placement, including whether or not a full year of experience was gained, the relevance of prior experience and the appropriateness of a prior K-12 teaching situation, shall be resolved by the District. As such questions arise and are answered by the District, the procedures and rationale will be put in writing and provided to the Association.
Placement on the Salary Schedule. 1. Members newly hired during the term of this Agreement may be given full credit for up to nine (9) years' previous licensed/teaching experience. In unusual circumstances, the Superintendent may grant additional credit. Relevant experience other than preschool, elementary, or secondary teaching may be counted if, in the judgment of the Superintendent, it is directly related to the assignment of the member. In defined hard to fill positions, the Superintendent may grant an additional six (6) years for documented, relevant experience.
2. To be eligible to move horizontally from column to column on the salary schedule, course work must meet the following requirement and be approved by the supervisor and Chief Human Resources Officer in advance of registration:
a. Graduate level college credit courses directly related to the teaching/professional (School Psychologists, Speech Pathologists, etc.)
Placement on the Salary Schedule. A. Salary, General - All certificated employees on a standard personnel service contract will be paid in accordance with their placement on the salary schedule annexed hereto as Exhibit A, the terms of this agreement, and the terms of their personnel service contract.
