Death of a Near Relative. When a death of a near relative occurs, a member of the bargaining unit may be absent, without loss of pay, for a period of one day except when the distance to be traveled exceeds 275 miles one way, at which time the member of the bargaining unit may be absent without loss of pay, for a period of two days. Any further approved absence will be without loss of pay at the discretion of the Superintendent.
Death of a Near Relative a. Employees may be absent from school or work site without loss of pay for the period of two (2) days, including the day of the funeral, because of the death of a near relative.
b. Definition: A near relative shall be construed to mean an uncle, aunt, niece or nephew.
Death of a Near Relative. A leave of one (1) day is available for the death of a near relative. Near relatives are: first cousin, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, son-in-law, or daughter-in-law.
Death of a Near Relative. Each regular Bargaining Unit Member may be granted two (2) days of absence, without loss of pay, to attend the funeral of a near relative. A near relative is defined as first cousin, grandfather, grandmother, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law, or sister-in-law.

When the death of a near relative occurs, a Professional Employee may be absent, without loss of pay for a period of one (1) day, except when the distance to be traveled exceeds 275 miles one way, at which time the Professional Employee may be absent, without loss of pay, for a period of two (2) days. Any further approved absence will be without loss of pay and at the discretion of the Superintendent.
Death of a Near Relative. Whenever a professional or temporary professional employee is absent because of the death of a near relative, there shall be no reduction in salary of said employee for absence on the day of the funeral. The Board of School Directors may extend the period of absence with pay at its discretion, as the exigencies of the case may warrant. A near relative shall be defined as first cousin, aunt, uncle, niece, or nephew. In addition, the term “near relative” shall include the parent or the grandparent of a person to whom the employee had previously been married, whether the employee is widowed or divorced.
