Definition of Time Periods. (a) For the purpose of this Article, periods of time referred to in days shall be deemed to mean such periods of time calculated on consecutive calendar days exclusive of Saturdays, Sundays and Named Holidays which are specified in Article 18: Named Holidays.
(b) Time limits may be extended by mutual agreement in writing. All time limits in this Article are directory, and intended to enable timely resolution of disputes.

(b) Should the Employer or the Union fail to comply with any time limit in the grievance procedure the grievance shall automatically move to the next step on the day following the expiry of the particular time limit, unless the parties have mutually agreed, in writing, to extend the time limit.

(e) If a meeting is held at Step 1, Step 2 or Step 3, an Employee shall have the right to be accompanied by a representative of the Union.

A grievance shall be defined as any difference arising out of interpretation, application or alleged violation, including disciplinary action resulting in demotion, suspension or financial penalty, dismissal except during the initial six (6) month probation period, factual inaccuracies in a performance appraisal, and letters of discipline placed on the employees personnel file, of this Collective Agreement.
