Departmental Staff Reductions. Where there are reductions in staff in departments of the store, such as a coffee bar or bakery counter, employees affected by such reduction shall be given a reasonable opportunity to adapt to the work in other departments in order to enable them to exercise their seniority. It is understood the foregoing applies to all employees and that they may be reduced to the six (6) month experience category if their lack of experience in the new position justifies such action.

Departmental Staff Reductions. Where there are reductions in staff in departments of the store employees affected by such reduction shall be given first opportunity to apply for any new positions that become available in the other departments. If hired in a new classification, the employee's seniority date will be changed to the date of hire in the new classification and the employee's rate of pay will be the start rate of the new classification. It is understood the foregoing applies only to employees in the top progression rate of their classification.

In the event of a food department closing, affected employees may exercise their seniority in other food departments and will retain credit for the experience hours within a food department. In the event of a General Merchandise (G.M.) department closing, affected employees may exercise their seniority in other G.M. departments and will retain their current rate of pay and maintain credit for all experience hours within a G.M. department. Should the employee exercising their seniority in another department not be able to perform the duties after the normal training period, a second opportunity to move will be offered.

  • PERSONNEL REDUCTION In the event of a personnel reduction, the employee with the least seniority shall be laid off first. Time in the Fire Department shall be given the utmost consideration. No new employee shall be hired until the laid-off employee has been given the opportunity to return to work, nor shall the position be replaced by a volunteer.
