DPSST Certification. It shall be a condition of employment that all employees receive and retain their basic certification by the Department of Public Safety and Standards Training (DPSST) during their first year of employment. The Employer shall submit all paperwork for employee certification with the DPSST within the first ninety (90) days of the employee’s hire and the employee shall receive verification of the paperwork submitted. The requirement to receive DPSST training within one year may be waived if availability of classes is a factor. In such cases, every effort will be made by the sheriff to place such persons based on class availability.
DPSST Certification. ‌ Those Sheriff’s Office bargaining unit members who have obtained a DPSST certification shall receive the following certification pay based on the following recognized DPSST standards. Once the Sheriff’s Office receives an approved DPSST certification, the pay increase will be retroactive to the first pay period following either: 1) the date listed on the DPSST certification; or 2) thirty (30) days after submittal by the employee to the Sheriff’s Office Training Coordinator, whichever occurs first. Advanced Certification 6.0% Intermediate Certification 3.0% Those members who are Communications Officers, Records Officers 1, 2 and Communications/Records Specialists and who are assigned for at least two (2) consecutive hours to either the Police Services Division Communications Center or the Corrections Division Central Control and Reception will receive a five percent (5.0%) premium above their normal rate-of-pay for that shift.
DPSST Certification. An employee classified as a Police Officer shall, upon receiving an intermediate or advanced certificate from the Department of Public Safety, Standards and Training, be eligible for a monthly allowance of 7% for intermediate DPSST certification, or 12% for advanced DPSST certification.
DPSST Certification. Sworn bargaining unit employees shall be eligible for incentive pay for DPSST certification. Certification incentive pay of $145 per month shall be added to an employee's base pay for a DPSST Intermediate Certificate. This incentive shall be increased to a total of $290 per month additional pay for a DPSST Advanced Certificate. Effective 7/1/24, three and one-half percent (3.5%) for a DPSST Intermediate Certification or seven percent (7%) for a DPSST Advanced Certification of an employee’s base pay shall be added to an employee’s monthly base pay. Certification incentive pay shall be paid at one level only. Certification pay shall begin on the first day of the first full pay period following the date written documentation of the certification is submitted by the employee to the Human Resources office.
DPSST Certification. Effective July 1, 2024, sworn members who maintain an Intermediate or Advanced certificate from DPSST are eligible to receive DPSST certification premium pay as provided below. The sworn member will notify the City of their DPSST certification, and payment will initiate in the next pay period. DPSST Intermediate: Two percent (2%) of the sworn member’s base wage. DPSST Advanced: Four percent (4%) of the sworn member’s base wage.

DPSST Certification. Employees in the classifications of Police Officer, Police Communications Specialist, and Lead Police Communications Specialist who hold an Intermediate DPSST Certificate shall receive incentive pay of four percent (4.0%) of their base pay per pay period. Those holding an Advanced DPSST Certificate shall receive incentive pay of eight percent (8.0%) of their base pay per pay period. Employees in the classification of Sergeant who hold an Advanced DPSST Certificate shall receive incentive pay of four (4.0%) percent of their base rate of pay per pay period. Employees in the classification of Sergeant who hold a Supervisory DPPST Certificate shall receive a monthly educational incentive pay of eight (8.0%) percent of their base rate of pay. DPSST certification incentives apply to the highest certification held and are not cumulative.
DPSST Certification. Employees with advanced DPSST certifications (i.e., levels 13 higher than Basic Certification) shall receive incentive pay for the higher certification, which is 14 not cumulative:

Those Sheriff’s Office employees who must wear plain clothes as part of their regular assignment shall receive six hundred twenty-five dollars ($625) per annum for clothing allowance. Employees who have the option of wearing either plain clothing or a provided uniform will not receive a clothing allowance. Any employee who is bilingual in Sign Language or Spanish shall be paid five percent (5%) premium pay. At an employee's tenth (10th) year anniversary, employee will receive two point five percent (2.5%) premium pay in recognition of the knowledge of the job they have acquired in those years of service. Every fifth (5th) anniversary thereafter, employees shall receive an additional two point five percent (2.5%) premium pay. Deputies assigned to the canine unit shall receive five hours per seven-day workweek for care and feeding of the canine. Overtime will not be paid for such extra work, unless the deputy is not released from patrol to address canine care duties. Time allowed per workday for canine care shall be considered appropriate compensation for canine maintenance for the entire week, including days off.
