Canine Care. Officers assigned to canine duty shall receive one (1) hour per shift to provide canine care. The employee will be compensated for one (1) hour for canine care on the employee’s day off. There shall be no premium compensation for canine care unless the employee works in excess of one hundred seventy-one (171) hours in the twenty-eight (28) consecutive day work period provided for in 22.2.
Canine Care. 42.1 Officers who are dog-handlers are responsible for the proper caring, grooming, feeding and exercising of the dogs assigned to them. One hour per day outside of normal working hours is considered sufficient for these activities. If circumstances require more than one hour in a day, the Chief of Police must approve the additional time in order for an Officer to be compensated for that time. 42.2 Officer dog-handlers will receive a weekly stipend of $110.00 for dog care. 42.3 Canine unit dogs are owned by the City and any specialized training, food, equipment, or veterinary care for dogs is supplied by the City.
Canine Care. In addition to the assignment/specialty pay listed above, canine officers and sergeants will be provided ten (10) hours of compensatory time paid, at straight time rate of pay, each month for care of their assigned animal to compensate for time spent caring for the canine. If another canine officer or a former canine officer provides temporary kenneling for a canine, the officer providing kenneling will receive one (1) hour of straight time pay for each day of kenneling.
Canine Care. Canine deputy(s) shall be granted one (1) hour per work shift of release time as compensation for the time it is necessary for the deputy to spend to care, groom, feed, maintain and transport the dog during off-duty hours. For example, if a deputy is assigned to five (5) - eight (8) hour shifts weekly, the deputy shall receive five (5) hours release time. If a deputy is assigned to a four (4) - ten (10) hour shift weekly, he/she shall receive four (4) hours weekly. Records shall be kept up to date each pay period as to actual time spent on such activities. Any such non-regular duty work in excess of five (5) hours per month shall require advance approval from the Sheriff, or his designee. The release time shall include time it is necessary for the deputy to spend to care, groom, feed, and maintain the dog on days off, vacation and holidays when deputies have the dogs in their possession. The deputy will thus be entitled to the same paid release time for canine care purposes during a scheduled vacation or holiday when the deputy has the dog in his/her possession. The County has done a study of the time normally taken in the care of the dog outside normal duty hours. It is the opinion of the parties that the above time spent approximates the release time granted. However, it is understood that compensation for canine maintenance work performed by K-9 handlers outside the regular duty assignment (e.g., at-home care of the dog, visits to the veterinarian) may calculate to be a lesser hourly rate than the deputy's regular rate of pay. The above compensation is in addition to the premium pay received by the deputy for assignment to canine duty.
Canine Care. A. Represented employees serving as Canine handlers are entitled to up to 3 ½ hours per week of paid time off for the care of the assigned canine. Time off shall not be charged to any other leave balance. B. In the event a canine is killed in the line of duty, the City shall provide for burial arrangements that meet with the City's approval.
