DURATION OF SCHOOL DAY. 1. In an elementary school, the duration of the school day for instructional purposes shall not exceed six (6) hours inclusive of a regular noon intermission, home room registration(s), one daily fifteen minute recess, and preparation time.
2. In a secondary school, the duration of the school day for instructional purposes shall not exceed six (6) hours and thirty (30) minutes inclusive of a regular noon intermission, home room registration(s), classroom change times, and preparation time.
3. With the agreement of the Administrative Officer or designate, the school staff, and the Superintendent or designate, the duration of the school day for instructional purposes may be altered. Such alteration shall not result in an overall increase in the duration of the instructional week beyond thirty (30) hours elementary and thirty-two and one-half (32.5) hours secondary.
4. It is understood that the terms of this Article do not apply to staff meetings as outlined in Article D.29.2 (Staff Meetings).

DURATION OF SCHOOL DAY. D.22.1 An elementary teacher shall not be required to offer instruction beyond an interval of six (6) hours, inclusive of:

D.22.2 A secondary teacher shall not be required to offer instruction beyond an interval of six (6) hours and thirty (30) minutes, inclusive of:
a. instructional time not to exceed five (5) hours and thirty (30) minutes, inclusive of homeroom and time for students to change classrooms; b. a regular noon intermission.
DURATION OF SCHOOL DAY. 1. For the purposes of the teacher's regular instructional assignment, each teacher shall be on the school premises at least fifteen (15) minutes prior to school opening in the morning, five (5) minutes prior to school opening in the afternoon, and five (5) minutes after school closure in the afternoon. For the purposes of this clause, school opening shall be defined as the beginning of the teacher's regular instructional assignments and school closure shall be defined as the end of the teacher's regular instructional assignments.
2. Within each day, part-time assignments shall be scheduled in consecutive teaching blocks, unless agreed by the teacher.
3. Each day shall include a regularly-scheduled lunch break of between thirty (30) to sixty (60) minutes duration.
DURATION OF SCHOOL DAY. D.17.1 Instructional contact time for a full-time elementary teacher shall not exceed five (5) consecutive hours in any one day. A break for lunch or preparation time is not construed as a break in consecutive time.
D.17.2 Instructional contact time for a full-time secondary teacher shall not exceed five and one-half (5 1/2), consecutive hours in any one day. A break for lunch or preparation time is not construed as a break in consecutive time.
D.17.3 Classes for all teachers will normally be scheduled between the hours of 08:00 and 16:00 hours except at the Cowichan Valley Open Learning Cooperative and the Cowichan Adult Learning Centre where hours may be between 08:00 and 21:00.
D.17.4 If classes are to be scheduled by the Board beyond these hours on a short term basis in order to respond to emergent situations, it shall be done only after consultation with the Local and five (5) teaching days notice of the change has been given.
D.17.5 In the event that the Board designates all or part of the non-instructional days referred to in Article D.15.2.b for student/parent teacher interviews, a staff will not be required, but may agree, to exceed the times in Article D.17.1 and D.
