Introduction and Discontinuation of Extended Tours. (a) Extended tours shall be introduced into any unit when:
i) eighty percent (80%) of the employees in the unit so indicate by secret ballot; and
ii) the Hospital agrees to implement the extended tours; such agreement shall not be withheld in an unreasonable or arbitrary manner.
(b) Extended tours may be discontinued in any unit when:
i) fifty percent (50%) of the employees in the unit so indicate by secret ballot; or
ii) the Hospital because of
(a) adverse effects on patient care,
(b) inability to provide a workable staffing schedule,
(c) where the Hospital wishes to do so for other reasons which are neither unreasonable nor arbitrary, states its intention to discontinue the compressed work week in the schedule.
(c) When written notice of discontinuation is given by either party in accordance with paragraph (b) above, then:
i) the parties shall meet within two (2) weeks of the giving of notice to review the request for discontinuation; and
ii) where it is determined that the extended tours will be discontinued, affected employees shall be given sixty (60) days' notice before the schedules are so amended.
(d) There will be an ongoing evaluation of the extended tour in each unit.
(e) It is understood that the implementation of extended tours in any one unit will be on a trial period for six (6) months. At the completion of the trial period a second vote will be taken in accordance with G.1 (a).

(i) sixty percent (60%) of the nurses so indicate by secret ballot; and
(ii) the Hospital agrees to implement extended tours, such agreement shall not be withheld in an unreasonably arbitrary manner.
(b) Extended tours may be discontinued in any unit when:
(i) fifty-one percent (51%) of the nurses in the unit so indicate by secret ballot; or
(ii) the Hospital because of
(1) adverse affects on patient care, or
(2) inability to provide a workable staffing schedule, or
(3) a wish to do so for other reasons which are neither unreasonable nor arbitrary, states its intention to discontinue extended tours.
(c) When notice of discontinuation is given by either party in accordance with paragraph (b) above,:

(i) The eligible staff must indicate by a sixty percent (60%) majority their willingness to try the twelve (12) hour shift.
(ii) The matter will then be presented to management via the Hospital- Association Committee for their approval.

(b) during the trial period the parties will meet to discuss any concerns or suggestions in an effect to resolve them.
(c) (1) after the trial period, the extended tour shall continue on a permanent basis when:
i) seventy-five percent (75%) of the nurses in the unit so indicate by secret ballot; and
ii) the Hospital agrees to implement the extended tours, such agreement shall not be withheld in an unreasonably arbitrary manner.

The introduction or discontinuance of extended tours shall be discussed with the nursing staff on the affected unit(s) and shall be determined by a secret ballot vote conducted jointly by the Hospital and the Union prior to implementation, after a six month trial period and not more frequently than every three years thereafter, as follows: To implement extended tour - requires 75% of the Registered Nurses affected that vote to commit themselves to work the extended tour; To discontinue extended tour - requires 50% + 1 vote of the Registered Nurses that vote actually working extended tours. The Hospital will provide the Union with ninety (90) days written notice of discontinuation of extended tour rotations. The parties will meet to discuss the discontinuation within two (2) weeks of receipt of a notice to discontinue. It is understood and agreed that management has the right to cancel an extended tour schedule if, in its opinion, it is not seen to be efficient or effective and the Hospital will discuss with the Union in advance any such cancellations. It is understood and agreed that the vote referred to herein above refers to a combined vote of the full-time and regular part-time registered nurses.
