Minimum Short Term Sick Leave Guarantee a) Each employee is guaranteed a paid short-term sick leave for a period of up to weeks from initial date of the illness. Employees who do not have weeks of accumulated sick leave credits under Article will be paid at the rate of of regular salary for the balance of such 15-week period beyond the date on which the sick leave credits expire. Short term sick leave will not be paid where the period of disability is less than consecutive working days. Employees who have exhausted their sick leave credits and who go on short term sick leave four weeks or later, after return to active employment in the cases of a new disability, or twelve weeks or later, after return to active employment in the case of recurrent or previous disability, will receive a salary of of regular salary for a period of up to weeks of absence from the date the illness began. In the case of a recurrent or previous disability, it is understood that if the employee ultimately qualifies to receive for any part of this week period, that the payment of salary under this paragraph shall be repaid to the Board, since an employee is not entitled to receive sick pay and at the same time. The provisions in the paragraphs a) and above will continue so long as the Board’s Employment Insurance premiums continue to be reduced as a result of the Board’s participation in the Human Resources Development Canada approved plan. It is understood that if at any time discontinues the reduction of premiums to the Board under its plan, that any payment of salary for sick leave, which is not covered by sick leave credits, will no longer apply. Should an employee be laid off or separated, by reason other than retirement, prior to termination of illness or injury, the payment of weekly indemnity benefits will cease at that time, only if: the disability began less than two months before the lay-off or separation, and a notice of lay-off or separation was given prior to the occurrence of the disability. In all other situations, the payment of benefits will continue beyond the date of lay-off or separation until the earliest of: the payment of a total of at least weeks of benefit, and the end of the disability.   • Short Term Sick Leave 8.   • Short Term Paid Leaves The parties agree that the issue of Short Term Paid Leaves had been addressed at the Central Table and the provisions shall remain status quo to provisions in current local collective agreements. For clarity, any leave of absence in the 2008-12 Collective Agreement, that utilizes deduction from sick leave, for reasons other than personal illness shall be granted without loss of salary or deduction from sick leave, to a maximum of five (5) days per school year. Local collective agreements that have more than (5) days shall be limited to five (5) days. These days shall not be used for the purpose of sick leave nor shall they be accumulated from year-to-year. Such provisions shall not be subject to local bargaining or mid-term amendments between local parties. Notwithstanding this stipulation, local collective agreement terms will need to align with the terms above.

  • Short Term Leave Members who are LTD trustees and Union stewards or designates may apply in writing to the Employer for short term leaves of absence for; attendance at union conventions, union courses, and union committees. The employee will give reasonable notice, which will be at least seven (7) days. The Employer will make every reasonable effort to accommodate such leave, and shall grant it subject to the ability to maintain the operational needs of the department. With the exception of members of the Union's executive, the employer is not required to grant more than twenty (20) days LOA per calendar year under this provision.

  • Short Term Leaves Short Term Leaves are designed to allow Teachers who have to apply for short term personal leaves of absence not otherwise covered by this Collective Agreement.

  • Short Term Layoff In the event of short term layoffs (a layoff of less than thirteen (13) weeks) the Employer will determine the shift(s) and classification(s) in which the layoffs will occur. The parties can agree to alternative methods of reduction of hours if time permits.

  • Short-Term Unpaid Leave Up to two days of unpaid leave may be granted for extenuating circumstances that are deemed to be unavoidable by the administration. Teachers should submit a letter outlining the circumstances as soon as possible in advance of the date(s) requested. Teachers should plan for special events, trips, etc. by accumulating and utilizing personal business leave as stated in Article 19.2.

  • Short-Term Disability Leave In order to access short-term disability leave, medical confirmation may be requested and shall be provided on the form attached as Appendix “C” to this Agreement. In either instance where an Employee does not provide medical confirmation as requested, or otherwise declines to participate and/or cooperate in the administration of the Sick Leave Plan, access to compensation may be suspended or denied. Before access to compensation is denied, discussion will occur between the union and the school board. Compensation will not be denied for the sole reason that the medical practitioner refuses to provide the required medical information. A school board may require an independent medical examination to be completed by a medical practitioner qualified in respect of the illness or injury of the Board’s choice at the Board’s expense. In cases where the Employee’s failure to cooperate is the result of a medical condition, the Board shall consider those extenuating circumstances in arriving at a decision.

  • Short Term Disability Plan The administration of the Short Term Disability Plan and the payment of benefits under this Plan shall be handled by the Company.

  • Short-Term Leave and Disability Plan Top Up (STLDPT) For teacher absences that extend beyond the eleven (11) sick leave days provided above, teachers will have access to a sick leave top up for the purpose of topping up salary to one hundred percent (100%) under the Short-term Leave and Disability Plan. This top up is calculated as follows:
