Short Term Sick Leave. Each school year, an employee absent beyond the eleven (11) sick leave days paid at 100% of salary, as noted in section 2 above, shall be entitled up to an additional one hundred and twenty (120) days short term sick leave to be paid at a rate of 90 per cent of the employee’s regular salary if the employee is absent due to personal illness including medical appointments as per the collective agreement provisions and practices in effect as at August 31, 2012.

Medium Term Disability 100% for Firefighters of regular gross earnings, commencing from the expiry of STSL and continuing for a maximum period of 50 weeks. 85% for CUPE of regular gross earnings, commencing from the expiry of STSL and continuing for a maximum period of 50 weeks; this benefit to be increased, from 85% on an incremental scale including claims incurred before that date as follows: 90% of regular gross earnings commencing 1990 December 24 95% of regular gross earnings commencing 1991 December 23 100% of regular gross earnings commencing 1992 December 21 Disability is defined as the inability to do their own occupation. 67% of regular gross earnings with no maximum benefit commencing on the expiry of MTD (52 weeks from date of disability); such benefit to be indexed annually in accordance with annual general increases in wage rates for the appropriate group from which the claimant is a member. In all instances, benefits cease on the employee ceasing to be disabled, death or the employee's minimum retirement age (60 for all employees, except 55 for Firefighters) or that age when the employee can retire without reduction in his accrued pension benefit (55 and 35 years' service for all employees, except 50 and 30 years' service for Firefighters); subject to a minimum of 15 years of combined pre-disability and disability related pensionable service as defined in the Municipal Pension Act.
Short Term Sick Leave. Each employee will receive a credit of six (6) days of one hundred per cent (100%) paid sick leave on each April 01. Employees hired during the fiscal year will have sick leave credited at the time of hire on the following basis: -hired prior to July 01; full credit -hired July 01 to September 30 inclusive; 4.5 days -hired October 01 to December 31 inclusive; 3 days -hired January 01 to March 31 inclusive; 1.5 days Employees who are absent on long term disability benefits referred to in Article 13.03(e) on April 1 will not be credited with the six (6) days until the April 1 following their recovery and return to work: the credit will be six (6) days if the employee returns to work on or before October 1, three (3) days if after. Any short term sick leave unused at the end of the leave period may be carried over to the next leave period.
Short Term Sick Leave. Employees shall have their accrued days of sick leave credits converted to hours by multiplying the number of days by eight (8) hours per day. A full shift absent will then constitute a reduction of ten (10) hours of accumulated credits. Employees may elect to use such credits in minimum increments of one-half hour for medical/dental appointments. When an employee ceases to be covered by this Agreement, the employee’s credits will be converted to days by dividing the hours of sick leave credits by eight (8) and rounding to the nearest half day.

Short Term Sick Leave. Sick leave is the granting of time off with pay for absences from regularly scheduled hours due to an employee’s legitimate illness which prevents the employee from working. Sick leave is a privilege and shall not be used for any other purposes. (a) There shall be a Sick Leave Credit Bank for each permanent full-time employee in the active employ of the Employer who has completed the probationary period. (b) Each eligible employee shall accumulate sick leave credits of 4.85 hours per pay period of active employment to a maximum of 1260 hours. (c) Where a full-time employee is absent from work due to legitimate illness, the employee shall not lose the employee’s regular straight time earnings from the employee’s regularly scheduled hours but shall draw from the employee’s Sick Leave Credit Bank to the extent of the employee’s credits.

(ii) Those employees on strength as at 1979 July 31 who elected to enter the sickness disability income protection plan effective 1979 August 01, shall, in addition to their existing sick leave credits, receive a credit of six (6) days each year on April 01. (iii) All employees commencing employment on or after 1989 July 01 (or date of ratification if later) will receive a credit of six (6) days sick leave on commencing employment and a further credit of six (6) days sick leave on each subsequent April 1st, except those employees who commence employment on or after October 1st in any year will receive a credit of three (3) days on April 1st following. (iv) Employees who are absent on Long Term Disability Plan benefits on April 1st will not be credited with the annual additional sick leave referred to in (ii) and (iii) above until the April 1st following their recovery and return to work; the credit will be six (6) days if the employee recovers and returns to work on or before October 1st and three (3) days if after. (v) An employee will not be required to use vacation leave to cover any absence due to certifiable illness or disability.
Short Term Sick Leave. Employees covered under this agreement, will receive a credit of fifty (50) hours sick leave on commencing employment and a further credit of fifty (50) hours sick leave on each subsequent April 1st, except those employees who commence employment on or after October 1st in any year will receive a credit of twenty-five (25) upon hire and fifty (50) hours on each subsequent April 1st. A full shift absent will then constitute a reduction of ten (10) hours of accumulated credits. If the absence exceeds four (4) consecutive shifts, the employee must submit a medical/dental certificate signed by the attending physician/dentist. A maximum of eight (8) 10-hour shifts without a medical certificate is allowable during each fiscal year.
