Social Networking Sites. 6.6.1 The use of such sites (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram to name but a few) has and will continue to increase. 6.6.2 KGS advises all staff and students to use such a system in an informed manner. Any reference direct or indirect to either the School, or a member of staff, or a student at KGS must be carefully considered. 6.6.3 The school reserves the right to ask for any comments/postings to be altered or removed that it considers inappropriate which make reference to any member of the school, or the School itself either directly or indirectly. 6.6.4 students are educated on the dangers of social networking sites and how to use them in safe and productive ways. 6.6.5 students are advised never to give out personal details of any kind which may identify them or their location. Instates students are encouraged to use nicknames and avatars when using social networking sites. 6.6.6 They are all made fully aware of the School’s code of conduct regarding the use of IT and technologies and behaviour online. 6.6.7 Access to social networking sites as a general rule is prohibited for students, although exceptions may be made where a suitable educational benefit can be cited by a student/member of staff to the Head of IT. 6.6.8 Staff are not permitted to communicate with parents, students or third parties in relation to any issue concerning KGS on any social networking site or related facilities. For example, direct communication via Facebook and Twitter is prohibited. The exception being via school or departmental accounts authorised for use by the Executive Principal, in adherence with the published guidelines. 6.6.9 students and staff are encouraged not to publish specific and detailed private thoughts, especially those that might be considered hurtful, harmful or defamatory. 6.6.10 The School expects all staff and students to remember that they are representing the School at all times and must act appropriately.

Social Networking Sites. Do not post information about patients or work-related issues on social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, YouTube, etc. Although these sites can be accessed during your scheduled time off from your own personal computing device (e.g., computer, mobile phone, laptop, etc.), you should remember that due to the nature of your work and the type of business you work in, just small bits of information, put together, can reveal identifying information about patients and cause you to violate privacy laws. Hospital worker: “Today was a bear. This guy came into our facility with a gunshot to the head. I don’t know how he was walking but he must have had a lot of adrenaline ‘cause he really tore up the place asking for help. I had to go downstairs to help clean up the mess.” Friend 1: “That was the guy they showed on TV, right?” Friend 2: “I saw him come in. He was scary. I was the one who called security.” Friend 1: “They said his name was Xxxxxx something?” Is this an appropriate conversation on a social networking site? Why or why not?

Where directed by a member of the SLT staff can access and place ‘approved’ messages on social networking sites. 7.6.2 The use of social networking sites for personal reasons is not permitted during the employee’s core hours. 7.6.3 Employees using social networking sites for personal reasons1 must ensure that, if adding information, they do not include reference to the School. The only exception is the sharing of information already published by one of the School official social media accounts. Failure to comply with this policy will be treated as a serious breach of the rules and may result in disciplinary action being taken. 7.6.4 Staff must not communicate with students via social media 7.6.5 Staff should not be ‘friends’, ‘contacts’, ‘followers’ etc. with students via any social media.

Whether on or off duty, employees shall not publicly express, share, or post information regarding the Office which would jeopardize the safety and security of Office employees, inmates or the public, or which could negatively impact the efficient or effective operation of the Office. C. Due to the increased scrutiny of law enforcement personnel postings on social networking sites, the Office strongly discourages employees from posting information regarding their own off-duty activities or the off-duty activities of another Office employee which may tend to bring the person’s reputation into question. This is not intended to infringe upon any employee’s First Amendment or other constitutional rights, but those who may be called to testify on behalf of the Office as part of their official duties must guard their reputation and should be aware that attorneys may attempt to use this type of information, e.g., postings on social networking sites, for impeachment purposes.

Social Networking Sites. Using CWAA computers to access social networking sites is prohibited. CWAA computers are for educational purposes only. Students may be disciplined if their speech on social networking sites (off-campus) causes a substantial disruption to the educational environment, interferes with the rights of another, or is a true threat.
